Hey, I was just thinking about all the discussion on these threads about the BS which spews out of uneducated sales people. This winter is shaping up to be huge for both formats, and potential buyers need to be properly educated on each format.
One of the biggest advantages Blu-ray has is title quality. We know that the majority of the biggest movies available in hi-def are available on blu-ray, with many being BD-exclusive. So, to help people considering jumping into hi-def, I think if the BDA came up with a small kiosk which has a search-able database of all movies available in hi-def, along with which format(s) it is on. People could walk up to it, type in the name of a movie, and see the truth. On the side would be a picture of the studios releasing BD movies. I think this would be an easy way for people to see what they can get on Blu-ray vs. HD DVD. If they type in "300" they see it is on both. If they type in "Pirates of the Carribean" they will see all three are only on blu-ray. Same there for The Simpsons, all three Spiderman movies, and so forth. Thoughts? Just wanted to get that out. |

I think something along these lines, especially if set up at a Best Buy, Circuit City, anyplace like that, would be extremely helpful for getting people excited, and not afraid, of jumping into the high-def game. I don't know how many people are like me, but I am highly skeptical of anything that comes out of sales people's mouths. I always use the car salesman example, because I've known more about every single car I've bought than the sales person, and to an embarassing degree. I ask them questions just to see what their answers will be, but my mentality is that if I'm spending money, especially a good deal of money, I'm going to educate myself to make my own decisions. Your suggestion would give people the feel of discovering something for themselves, rather than being sold to. Right now, we need something that takes the fear out of the investment.

that would be cool especially since 1/2 the sales people don't know what they are talking about, case in point being i was told last week when buying Silent Hill on Blu-Ray that i should consider buying an HD-DVD player instead as Disney just announced they were going HD-DVD exclusive.
I said I check the news on this stuff almost everyday and there is nothing even hinting at that fact and he said well i should check closer. I'm tempted to call up there and tell his boss he is giving out false information but then again i don't want to get the guy fired sorry got off topic ![]() |
