Cooled off a bit recently with Almodóvar but this looks very interesting for the cast.

^I saw it at a recent film festival in my city. It was more decent than great, certainly not in the same league as Pain & Glory or (my favorite) Volver. The lead actresses are very good, although there is a distracting Swinton appearance in a kind of epilogue for the main thread that just took me out of the story, and felt more like a contractual obligation to have some kind of gimmick for the actress.

I saw this yesterday and thought it was very good, but Almodóvar never disappoints me; he is a phenomenal (and very consistent) director but I agree that THE ROOM NEXT DOOR isn’t in the same league as “Pain and Glory” and “Volver”. I also have to agree about that late Swinton appearance too, as I thought it was a terrible decision and the film’s worst creative decision.

I can imagine Criterion releasing the film in the US. If so, hopefully in 4K and with lots of extras. Almodóvar is always a joy to listen to.

A 4K would be great. So far I think, every Almodovar has been release by Sony in the US. Maybe they could include one of his in a CC set or in a second Sony Classics set.

Unbelievable if true. Sony are currently releasing lots of rather obscure SPC titles but not even a barebones disc of the new English-language Almodóvar film?

Hopefully this means Criterion were able to license the film straight away, which would be much deserved.

I just checked the disc on my Region A locked player and it played fine.

Neither the back cover or the disc itself has Region B included.

Got my BD today and PQ is very, very nice. Even though the film was shot in 4.6K, this isn’t the sharpest of masters with seemingly intentional diffusion, digital grain and rather broad, intense colors rather than more nuanced textures. They also finished the master in SDR. All of this is rendered beautifully thanks to a strong encode. I rented the film digitally before and the BD is definitely better defined.

I’d love to get a Criterion 4K and would gladly part with this BD if that happens.

Mine arrived a few days ago, looking forward to checking it out soon. I agree, if we ever get a UHD I'd love that, but until then I'm grateful Warners gave us this BD, since Sony left the film languishing in the DVD dungeon in the US.
