Lightbulb My logo contribution to Blu-ray.com

I got to thinking maybe we could use a new logo for this site. This is what I came up with. blu-ray.gif

3-D, simple, and elegant. Doesn't need to be real fancy, this is blu-ray, darn it!

I really can't flourish it too much because of this software. But the background is transparent so it will overlay nicely.

(Feels a contest coming on.)

The logo is fine. The logo we have now is fine. I mean "hot damn, Tron, the obsession with logos is scary."

seconds...thirds...fourths...fifths....

Tron. Seriously, why continue to use this site as to get your Masters degree in Marketing. The site is fine. We don't need logos, secret societies, stickers, t-shirts and what not. You have some good well meaning posts to discuss Blu-ray. Can't we just stick to that?? If you have good design, submit it to the site Webmaster via a PM.

Was just trying to be helpful. Hey, if the they like it, they are free to use it. Nothing wrong with wanting to spiff up the place. Some others would say "we should do this.." "We should do that.." and never do it. At least I try to give back.

There's giving back...and then there's acting like an attention starved 8 year old.

If you want to give back, dig into the threads that talk about Blu-ray and contribute your thoughts. Let the 10 multi-billion dollar companies that make up the BDA worry about the Marketing plan. We do our part by supporting the cause through discussing and buying Blu-rays. It's really easy.

Sorry if I have insulted you.

Don't worry, that wasn't insulting...

The least you could have done was add "With all due respect.." or "No offense or nothing..."

The current forum logo looks great. The design is simple, easy to read, and is similar in concept to the official Blu-ray logo.

On the other-hand, the logo submitted for our eval has none of that. It's hard on the eyes, and other than color, has very little similarity to the official BD logo. And what is the point of the stove burner coil in place of the "o"? It has little relevance to the subject at hand. The whole thing looks amateur.

I agree with Manco, let the website creators and BD companies worry about marketing. If they want our help, they will ask for it. Support the BD format via your wallet and word of mouth.

What uprising? I truly don't know.

The site does not need a "logo" other than the actual blu-ray logo.

With all due respect.

What software are you using? The results look really familiar but I can't remember what that program was called. Maybe Cool 3D?

Anyway, as a graphic artist I can say your submission isn't the greatest. RangerSix touched on most of the problems. But if you take it as a standalone graphics piece there are basic composition mistakes. Firstly, the transparency isn't working when you output. See the white fringe around your drop shadow? Some of that could be attributed to using 'gif' as your output. Try png to get better transparency's. The text is hard to read and that is because of a couple issues. The font just doesn't work. What makes it worse is the white outline around the letters. At the resolution you are working in it becomes too pixelated and cluttered. It basically makes your graphic look 'dirty' and unprofessional.

Just some professional critique. I do this for a living.

First and foremost, you need to work on font selection. That is your foundation and if you choose wrong there, nothing you do to gloss it up will make it any better. Looking at the second graphic you posted, it is pretty much the same problem. So keep working at it.

You do professional graphic design? I'm a junior in high school and I'm in graphic design classes for 4 hours a day. Lol, I think an ANIMATED GIF would look the best!

I would make a logo if we were in need of one, but the one we have now is awesome! It's clean and simple.. we need nothing more.

Sorry if that's the case. But I tried to send several personnal friends over to this site. I got several emails from them that the place seemed a little out of control with this whole blu-blood thing.

Yeah, I'm a little pissed off for looking like a jackass in front of people I know.

If myself and a few others did not speak up, where would things be right now?

PM if you want to take this offline.
