Why create a whole new thread for this when you could have just added this link to the other thread that you created on the same subject?
Namely, this one: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=381365 |

I remember reading an article many years ago that CD manufacturing would stop in 2012 and yet in 2024 they are still being made. I am not worried about Blu-ray or UHD.

Well yeah but that doesnt mean that those of us that enjoy physical media cant be concerned. I wont worry at this stage but I do have backup players
"in stock" just in case and I will keep growing my physical media collection. Next step is to start ripping owned titles to a home NAS drive and have that option too. |

They will still be selling disc players and 4K UHD, BD's, DVD's 10 years from now. It's not dying. It's no longer mainstream which streaming now is. It's like the Laserdisc days all over again and VHS is the equivalent of streaming. Even if the big manufacturers stop making disc players there have been so many produced you would still be able to buy a new or used one online like eBay or Amazon.
However when they do officially stop producing all disc players that will be the beginning of the end for physical media. As the boutique labels and studios would likely stop producing media. That's likely 30+ years away probably as internet speeds will get even faster so don't worry keep collecting. Last edited by danny24; 12-21-2024 at 07:17 PM. |
