Wait until they see Dune messiah and they'll learn he's not a hero.

He's not Neo or Luke Skywalker! he's also not a god superhero who can crack the ground with his voice and make it rain on Arrakis (water is poisonous to sandworms as it would destroy the spice and bring doom to the galaxy).

It's like the same people who think Tyler Durden in Fight Club is a hero.

Yeah, Paul's morels are questionable in Messiah and... not gonna spoil it for those who don't read the books, but yeaaaaahhh... anyway.

Hot take, but "Paul is the bad guy" only really works when you read Messiah.

If you just read or watch Dune, it mainly just portrays him as the good guy through and through. The whole thing about him turning bad was only when Frank decided to make sequels.

God Emperor of Dune is it's own thing, though. Like, that and Children of Dune are like over 3000 years apart. They are their own stories.

No.

He was a false prophet from the outset. When Herbert saw some people didn’t get it, he wrote Messiah to hammer home that fact. But it’s all there in the first novel.

Some fans expect that Messiah won't be that good cause of Paul's rouge nature in it. Not to mention how his arc ends in Children of Dune. Messiah is not the real final, but will probably play off that way for fans of the films. Either way, fans of the films that don't read the books, you may not be happy how everything ends for Paul.

Wherever it is best suited. The flip side is having a bunch of conversations that have nothing to do with each other except the movie title. This will quickly subside and fall down the list. Problem solved. Is there a God Emporer of Dune thread? Go there. It's really easy.
