Loved this when I was a kid. My mates hated it but it had a goofy charm that I liked. Proper HD remaster or no sale, mind you. I'll buy upscales of old VT stuff but as this was shot on film then I ain't buying no upscale, not for 60 fookin sovs anyway. Mentions a lot of HD upscaled extras but only says it's in "breathtaking HD" for the main show. Hmmm.

Breathtakingly warped AI HD I would imagine.

It's AI-upscaled. Jamie confirmed it shortly after it was announced. Another one where the original elements are in the wind.

The previous UK release from Network was a bit odd as a lot of the later episodes were missing the tail end of the end credits - presumbly to remove a company logo?

Yikes. No thanks, tho I suppose there's always a slim chance that it's been upscaled with taste and respect and doesn't look like a shimmering watercolour filter mess. Eh, who am I kidding?

Assuming they are using the same remaster as britbox/itv x it will probably look like this: https://www.youtube.com/supported_br...tube.com/watch

I ordered mine from the Anderson store. Its listing on the site as a February estimated release. I assume it will change to march considering its listing a 31st march release on Amazon/zavi/hmv. I’ve only ever ordered the day after tomorrow blu ray from the store so I’m not really sure how their preorders work

Here is a comparison of the Into Infinity release, Fanderson DVD vs Anderson Entertainment BD AI upscale.

https://imgsli.com/MzM4MTAy

Since I don't have the BD, the frame grab was someone else's. The DVD is of course mpeg2 compressed but you would assume that Anderson Entertainment had an uncompressed master to go from albeit SD.

The AI thickens everything up like a an old VHS HQ control turned up to max putting a black line around objects to try to make things look sharper. The most in focus part of the image is Nick Tate's face and I know which version I prefer.

I do hope lessons have been learned from that blu ray release. It’s absolutely abysmal. It’s dnr’d to hell

I posted the Legacy thread with news about this series Blu-ray set back in November...

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...=216950&page=5

At the time it was only available from Anderson Store but looks like it will now receive a wide release, pre-ordered using the 20% code app code as I haven't seen this since the original BBC airings and fancy seeing it again plus the extras sound pretty extensive.

I doubt it. At the end of the day if they can actually make a success out of producing blu-rays that have little high definition content within the main body of the release, then hats off to them. But then as we know, plenty of consumers see a BD box and think it MUST be better.

That's a trailer for when they released the AI upscales on ITV X Premium in 2023 so should give a fair idea of what the Blu-rays will look like.

Doesn't look that far off the presentation of the Farscape blu-rays which I fine perfectly acceptable.

I'm all in on this one even though the AI upscale decision isn't great.

I thought the picture quality on the Network DVD set was surprisingly poor so hoping this is an improvement .

Pretty sure some comments online stated that the original masters aren't available anymore.

Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if the powers that be just don't think they would see a decent enough return on Space Precinct so decided to go the AI route to make it cost effective, and also test the waters for future AI releases if this one goes down well enough?

Straight from Jamie Anderson…

Tape remaster with Al upscale. Film elements are lost presumed destroyed. And even if found, since the show was edited on video, a full film remaster would never be commercially viable.

You may be in for disappointment as it's an HD upscale of video.

We actually went back and forth about this in the YT comments. I think he got bored of me wanting a proper HD release.

Farscape has some issues, one of which no one has got back to me about in that thread.

Does this release include the "Space Police" pilot from 1986?
