Man this sight is addicting and i don't even have any ht gear yet. I was originally going to just get a HTIB but after i found this sight that's a big no! So i'm trying to decide between:
receiver: ONKYO 607 or 606 (due to Driver King's sig, seem's he know's his equipment) or Something in this quality speaker's:Polk RM6750 or Energy Take Classic's Currently I have a Samsung 46'' LN46550 and a ps3, i also have a 17 month old baby and another on the way in October. Not looking to spend more than 600$. I really wanted to get some input from all the guru's on this site. Thanks in Advanced!!!! |

Congrats on starting a family and a home theater. I have never heard Energy speakers myself but I have heard nothing but good things about them. I have the Polk rm6880 set and it has been nothing short of great for me. For small satellite speakers they do perform rather well and the center channel is solid. The subwoofer doesn't pack to much of a punch but it sounds good nonetheless. I say go with what you think looks nicer and/or is cheaper.
I also have an Onkyo receiver and it also has done a great job for me. And yes the site is ultra addictive. Though it's a healthier addiction than most sites on the web. |

Welcome!
The Onkyo 606/607 is a good receiver in that price range. You may also want to look at the Yamaha 665 or 663 if you can find one. Having owned the Polk RM6750 set, I can tell you it's a decent little set, but I guarantee you'll end up wanting more and wanting to upgrade from it in about 6 months. The good thing is that you can use parts of it while upgrading, but the bad side is that you've already spent extra money that way. What I'd recommend is to look into getting the fronts and center from either Polk, Klipsch, Energy, Jamo or other good price-to-performance manufacturer. In the long run you'll be happier. |

I started with the Onkyo 606 and Polk RM6750. It's a great little satellite set, but I upgraded about 7 months later to what I have now. So if you have a bit of extra money and the room for larger speakers then you may want to skip the intermediary stage and make the jump to floorstanding fronts.
