So I put up the smile Smile UHD review a few weeks ago. I saw it on release but it spooked me so much I didn't think I could handle a rewatch. But thankfully I was able to do that and it didn't scare me as much. And that was a great UHD with good specials too. I wasn't sure what to expect of this movie, I just knew people liked it more. I think I also liked it more, however that's not because the first Smile is bad, it was really good and this is just that much better. I do feel like it successfully raised the bar. Having the Smiler transfer to a pop star and seeing how that plays out I think is ingenious. And unlike the first movie no one explains it to her first so she has no idea what's going on, probably what it was like for most of the victims. The whole atmosphere is so much creepier and the sound effects really enhance that. (I don't remember that, or at least to that extent, in the first movie.) The smiling is more frequent and ever creepier so it's not just some gimmick, it's like the creatures whole personality. [Show spoiler] I think Naomi Scott killed it, absolutely pulled off convincingly a recovering celebrity going through hell and then being driven mad. [Show spoiler] Being an accomplished singer and performer also helped a lot. I can't get the song New Brain out of my head, doesn't that fit the movie perfectly? I'm going to buy that this weekend. [Show spoiler] The movie was so good and has had me thinking a lot. Unlike the first movie, I'm not going to wait years, I want to watch it again soon. Fortunately the presentation is reference, very detailed Dolby Vision picture. Any close up shot of Skye's face shows this well. But really it's the sound that takes it to the next level. And I used headphones for this like usual. The loud, creepy music and sound effects really set the mood. And the jump scares will scare the crap out of you (even when you can feel one coming, though the movie is also good at faking you out with the jump scares). Highly recommend sing headphones with bass, especially if no sound system. Specials is basically six 5 minute featurette and a few deleted scenes. The deleted scenes are worth it and probably could have been included, particularly the entire New Brain rehearsal. The featurettes are also really good. Great movie and great UHD so highly recommended! Obviously make sure you've seen Smile first or it will take a while to figure out what's going on. |

Movie is probably 20 minutes too long, and I wish they had delineated a little more between hallucinations and the Smile infestation or whatever. Just sorta felt like there were no rules whatsoever because it would have made the plot tougher to crack.
But overall it’s a good movie and a good sequel. Has style for days that’s actually in service of something, the lead is great, and it leaves the franchise in a really promising place. Also, the transfer is great and the atmos track really makes you appreciate the sound design. |

I was pleasantly surprised by Smile 2. It was creative, powerfully acted, and entertaining. The script is strong and innovative, with good dialog and a very unpredictable progression of events. I thought the directing, filming, editing, creepy electronica scoring, and aggressive pacing were equally strong. Very good gore effects as well, save just a couple extra-cheese cgi "creature" events that didn't even need to be in the film, but didn't hurt it much, either. The uhd is solid with great black levels and punchy audio, which helps matters.
I was worried going into this blind, as I found the first film to be insipid daft rubbish, with weak, unconvincing performances, equally-weak directing that coaxed very little from the cast, poor editing, and one of my biggest pet peeves......a whole host of characters that acted/reacted nothing like actual people, in just about every scene. I really couldn't bring myself to sit through it, despite repeated attempts. Smile 2, on the other hand, I can see myself happily revisiting periodically. If you weren't a fan of Smile, don't automatically rule out Smile 2 just for sharing the same writer/director. It's a somewhat different kettle of fish. It's one of those exceedingly rare sequels that easily surpasses the first film. Last edited by DaylightsEnd; 02-08-2025 at 08:17 PM. |

I found one at walmart today and got it. While I didnt like Smile, I thought it was a cool concept just not done well and not a great cast. Smile 2 commercials looked really good to me and so I wanted to see it. I am looking forward to watching this one.

The original Smile is a grower. Its derivative aspects put me off a bit initially but it holds up really well to rewatches. And while Scott is deservedly getting praise for her outstanding performance in the sequel, I’m equally fond of Bacon’s more withdrawn approach in the original. She’s got great chemistry with Gallner too.
This is good to hear as I had to turn off his commentary for the first one after about five minutes. The Fangoria write-up included thoughtful quotes from Bacon and Gallner, and it made me wish they had been included in the commentary. Actors can help loosen up a dry and technically minded director on commentary tracks in my experience. |

I watched this last night. I didnt like the first movie but I loved this one. I think it was great. It was creepy, it was scary, it had me questioning what might be really going on and what was just happening in her head. This one was so fun. The main actress did an amazing job and i kept thinking she should be in scream 7. She was so good. I never saw Aladdin and charlies angels was trash, but she was amazing in this.
The opening was so good. Did he walk past a man on fire that only he could see? It happened so fast I wasnt sure. Very good horror movie that didnt rely on stupid humour to ease tension at times. I was so thankful it stayed away from that. |
