Hey guys, as someone who owns a combo player, I'd be interested to know about any films/other stuff that were released on HD-DVD but still haven't had a Blu-Ray release. I already know this is the case for:
-Carlito's Way -Carlito's Way: Rise To Power -Smallville Season 5 I was also wondering if there were some HD-DVD releases that were actually superior to their Blu-Ray counteparts, for whatever reason (Image/Audio quality, packaging, special features, etc...). For example the King Kong HD-DVD as special features while the Blu-Ray doesn't (though the Blu-Ray apparently has better picture quality). Any and all help is welcome, thanks! |

The Italian Job (2003) has the DTS track as listed on the back cover and it has a 1.5mbs bit-rate. The BD is MPEG2 with 640k Dolby Digital audio only.
Mission: Impossible III has a picture-in-picture video commentary with Tom Cruise and Director J.J. Abrams. Both the DVD & BD are audio commentary only presentations. Blood Diamond, Harry Potter & The Goblet of Fire, and Harry Potter & The Order of The Phoenix have In-Movie Experiences with picture-in-picture interviews. The BDs include the "Focus Points" featurette portions of these video commentaries. The Thing, Jarhead, I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry, and U-571 HD DVDs all have numorous extras that were not included on Blu-ray Disc. However, The Thing UK BD includes all of the the extas while the US BD uses excerpts from the extras to make up the BonusView video commentary. |

Termintor 2 from studio canal on HD dvd is still the best version of this film.Seen both versions on blu ray and both don't come close to this release in terms of PQ.
Also the UK version of The Thing on hd dvd is better than both the uk and us blu version in my view with less dnr in many scenes. Over all though dnr thing is a studio decission and nearly all my hd dvds have been changed to blu, but i will not get rid of my T2 on HD DVD because i consider that gold dust. Its the only version which looks like pure film compared to the others. |

In addition to more extras, The Thing looks better on HD DVD because it wasn't treated with DNR. The same goes for U571.
As for what HD DVDs haven't been ported to Blu-ray yet, there are over a hundred. Most of Universal's catalog stuff hasn't made the transition yet. I'll note the more popular ones from each studio. Hopefully these will show up on Blu soon! Universal Accepted Apollo 13 Assault on Precinct 13 (Remake) Atonement Backdraft Being John Malkovich The Big Lebowski Billy Madison The Breakfast Club Cat People Darkman Dazed & Confused The Deer Hunter Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind Fast Times at Ridgemont High Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas The Frighteners Half Baked Happy Gilmore Meet the Parents Midnight Run Spartacus Paramount Anchorman Stardust Warner Caddyshack Excalibur Forbidden Planet Mutiny on the Bounty (Remake) Last edited by Jinto; 09-05-2009 at 11:15 PM. |

Seen both uk versions on blu and i can say in my view that both don't touch the Studio canal version.Cannot coment on Jap version but i would take the uk versions out when trying to compete with the hd dvd version.
