I’ll stick with the already outstanding Blu-ray release on this one, but nice that this one will receive a UHD! Very underrated film

Yeah, I'm impressed by the BD screenshots for this, which I assume is sourced from the same 4K scan for this release. With DV/HDR it should look excellent.

Nice to finally get the native 4K HDR presentation of the master. The Paramount BD was an absolute stunner. Just… why did it have to be Kino?

At least it’s better than most of the shlock they’re putting out anyways (a quality movie!), so there’s that…

One of my favorites from childhood. I wish I didn't get a bad feeling when Kino is releasing something I would normally be excited about.

Since it Paramount, I’m gonna be the InB4SummerRentalGuy (which is probably just me.

Kino only releasing Summer Rental to Blu was by far one of their oddest moves to disc. So many are passing on the BLU because it was a crap move.

I love this movie. It's like a mix of Looney Tunes, Dumb and Dumber , a period piece with a mix of slapstick, adult jokes and snarky characters. I'm glad I didn't have to try and market this movie though.

This one is pretty good. MifuneFan wasn't kidding when he said Paramount licensed a ton of titles to Kino recently.

The most interesting comparison is probably going to be whether Paramount or Kino’s BD has the better encode as the UHD is surely inferior to one or both.

One of my favorite comedy flicks of all time.
That and 'Young Frankenstein'

* They should be both on 3D Blu.

What I always want to know in these situations is if the UHD is still a worthy upgrade despite the dodgy encode. If the current BR were an old master the answer is probably yes but when they are from the same master it’s less clear.

Which Kino 4Ks have actually been inferior to their BD counterparts? I know the encoding has been off but I wasn’t aware that the 4K discs were actually worse than the BDs.

Uncle Buck: https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?a=1&x...2&l=0&i=2&go=1. The 4K has chroma noise and the significantly inferior encode compared to KL’s BD.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers 1956: https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?a=1&x...7&l=0&i=0&go=1.

Invasion 78: https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?go=1&...207522&i=4&l=0.

Hatari: https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?a=1&x...3&l=0&i=7&go=1. Both aren’t good but the BD encode is more consistent in motion.

There are also others like Stalag 17 where even the old master shows more detail than KL’s 4K encode.

Kino is one of the worst labels as far as 4K discs go. They’ve had a few good/ok 4Ks but a lot are questionable at best. Not to mention their other QC issues with different audio issues or mistakes, and scratched discs. They’ve made it pretty clear their goal is quantity over quality.
