Default Ordering from Amazon

Hi, searched on this, didn't see anything.....

I'm becoming more resigned that if I want certain releases, I'm gonna have to go w/internet purchases. I prefer B&M stores, but selection is really not that good (esp. CC - YOU SUCK!!!).

My Q is (since i'm unfamiliar w/it), if I "preorder" stuff from say, amazon, do they charge your card/acct. right away, or on the day it ships?

couldn't easily find this info on amazon's site.

no, they charge you a buck and then take it away... just to make sure the card is valid... and the full amount is withdrawn when the order is shipped.

They only charge at the time of shipping; Moreover if you pre-order something and the price lowers you get the lower price.

One more q, have any of you used Visa Gift Cards to place orders on Amazon? the less personal info I circulate, the better. It seems like it would work, but I would love to know if anyone has actually done it. I would have no problem having to load the card when I need to make a purchase, if that means not having to use my actuall CC online.

Yes, I have used those before and they work fine. I believe you have an opton for 'gift card' as the cardholder if memory serves.

HA! Nah, it's just when you hear stuff about people's info getting stolen, seems like a no-brainer that you can help avoid that by simply not using personal CC's as much as you can.

Sweet! I finally did the whole gift card thing for the first time, my first shipment is on the way (still waiting on the Spidey BR Box set). If anyone else is like me and hesitates using credit cards online, just go buy a gift card - it works great.

Or open another checking account and use a debit card. This way it's not linked to your main account and you can do funds transfers online (most banks have this feature free of charge).

Or sign up for PayPal if you have not already and take advantage of their virtual credit card. Protects you when you buy by not using your real card info.

You can also help support Blu-ray.com by ordering and pre-ordering your Blu-ray titles through the Movie page:

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/

You'll be ordering through Amazon and helping Blu-ray.com in the process!

I have a special bank account and debit card for online Blu purchases. You can just deposit money in the account as you make a purchase and otherwise keep a low balance. That way, if someone got hold of your account, they would risk going to prison for maybe $3. or $4.

Someone more official will probably get around to providing a better answer, but...

Amazon has an affiliate program that sites can join; basically, if you click an Amazon buy or pre-order link from the Movies section (not a member-placed link in the forum) and actually make a purchase, blu-ray.com gets an itsy-bitsy teeny-weeny kickback.

Inquiring about blu-ray.com's participation in this program was one of my earliest posts here. Some sites pimp their participation pretty hard, but here it's kind of under the radar.

I don't own Blu-ray.com. I wish! By clicking on a buy link and then buying that particular BD, Amazon will kick Blu-ray.com back a tiny commission for sending them the business. You still get the same amazon price and the transaction is completely handled by Amazon. Obviously, a site of this size has quite a few expenses and this small amount of money from Amazon helps the site owners keep the lights on, so to speak. If you enjoy the site and want it to stay, then you can show your support by buying with the site's links - - and it doesn't even cost you anything!

If not, that's cool too!
