As promised, I am ready to tell you what I think. I watched this last night with soda.

I previously watched this on Vudu. The picture and 3D look the same that they do on Vudu. Here is what I wrote previously about the movie and the 3D, which still apply now:

It's funny and cute at times, but as a 2D it would probably be a one and done.

Where this really shines is the 3D! I was NOT expecting a strong 3D feature. I was thinking this was going to be mid to week since it hasn't gotten much discussion, I guess just because there's no blu-ray. But oh man if you haven't seen this on Vudu you are missing out. This is medium strong and sometimes strong the whole way through. There are a LOT of popouts. Like at least every 5-10 minutes there's a great popout. The 3D is used very well and to god effect, heightening the tension and fear. Opportunities for great use oof 3D (e.g. an object being thrown across the room, looking over the edge of a building) are not missed!
Unfortunately there is no included blu-ray or 2D version as Random Space discs have. It's a single disc with the 3D movie. Also you need to manually switch to English dialog and to turn off German subs (both are defaulted on for some reason). However, it does have 1 special, which is a Despicable Me short, which has comparable 3D to Migration. That surprised after the MI 5 disc had no specials at all. Anyway, I highly recommend getting this because the 3D is so good. So if you missed out because you can't access Vudu, now is your chance for this 3D treat!

It absolutely does not, lol. The blu-ray is so much better. Vudu is half-resolution and it’s painfully obvious on a 120” screen. Nearly unwatchable, but better than nothing at all. Happy to have it on disc and it blows the Vudu stream out of the water.

There is no 2D disc but the 2D version is included in the 3D disc. I tested the disc on my non-3D 4K player and it plays fine in boring 2D.

I believe that he was referring about the 2D disc that brings extra content. For collectors who like to have all in one package and this collectible edition not including those is underwhelming. Comparable with the RSM packs is a step backward even though Turbine is bringing new 3D movies to the market.

Well, this is already addressed in the MI thread. It's a licensing thing, if I'm not mistaken. The studios will sublicense the 3D versions to Turbine, but not the 2D ones (because they would stand in competition to their own 2D releases, after all).

I do agree with your point because as a collector I do like to have everything in one package and in fact I rarely ever buy a 4K edition unless it also comes with a Blu-ray.

But at the same time it is very clear to me that this collection is set up to focus purely on 3D content. Yes you could include extras and produce slipcovers and certainly collectors like those but EVERYONE buying these discs is buying them ONLY for the 3D movies they contain so I admire Turbine for not wasting any time or money on anything else. As has been mentioned, this ensures that the studios still get direct sales for the flat versions with extras.

If I was really jonesing for the Minions mini-movies or other Migration special features I would just buy a 2D version and Frankenstein it together with the 3D one. The price is only going to keep coming down.

I'll rephrase. In my opinion, the picture and 3D look the same as I remember them looking on Vudu.

There, now it's a fact and inarguable.

That's good to know it works! The Random Space discs had an option to play the 2D movie on the 3D disc (and also play the 2D movie on the included regular blu-ray). I should check that this thing plays on the PS5, I guess it probably does.

This one looked great in 3D. The family had a good time seeing this one. Glad I held off watching my 4k copy.

Gave this a spin tonight and I have to say that I enjoyed this A LOT more than I was expecting to. I thought the initial trailers for it looked okay, but this was never really going to be on my radar outside of maybe a good Black Friday sale because I was never expecting to get a legal 3D version (massive thanks Turbine and Universal!). All that said, the 3D is really fantastic in this one and there are tons of pop-outs (usually beaks/bills) littered throughout the movie, which make it a fun watch from start to finish. The story is pretty simple and is more of an adventure than anything - something perfect for the whole family to enjoy. But it does have heart and is beautifully animated. Highly recommended and was definitely worth the wait!

Popped this in for a quick test today. Is it just me or are the black levels a bit elevated on this disc? Both the short film and main feature. I have a JVC NP5 projector and found the picture nice and bright but contrast was lacking compared to other titles. Possibly an intentional decision to help with 3D brightness.

Note: I have just changed my AVR to a Denon 3800. Possibly it is doing something, although other discs have seemed ok.

Yes, I've noticed this on all of Turbine's disc, I just turn my "brightness" (black level) down when I watch them, Jurassic World Dominion was the most obvious one because the back half of the movie is dark

Finally watching Migration 3D on Christmas and it looks really good for the 3D, with plenty of nice medium to sometimes stronger 3D layers. Had to stop halfway through for now but an interesting movie about a family of ducks trying to migrate and deal with the adventure along the way. Will watch the rest this week.
