That reminds me of Starfield, where a mission has you land, create a base and then having to defend it in a mission.
I gave this NMS another play today with the updates. They improved the clouds a lot. Now they seem more realistic than before, as they line up in the sky at a certain height and can be flown through more convincingly. Also, when flying to the planet, clouds don't completely cover the vision for more than a second, so it's a more fluent switch to the ground. Although there is a big pop in of the land from the basic texture for the planet that disappears as you get near the ground. Unfortunately, the planets still have that "all the same terrain" style to them, so there is almost zero mystery to exploring for new sights. Even so, a clever game and there are not many games with endless planets. |

I did find an outpost on a planet that has ladders on it and stairs, so that was different at least. Have you tried Creative Mode? I like it but there is no challenge to it. I should probably go back to normal mode and test that out again. I had a hundred of hours progress in Normal mode, and then Hello Games put out a major revision to NMS which automatically erased all of my progress, back in 2018 I think. I'm sure that put a damper on my enthusiasm after that. |

I checked the new options, just wish there was an easy button press to change the camera view from 1st to 3rd to 1st. Instead, the game makes you go into options settings in the onscreen lower icon menu to select it in a list of items.

The dinosaur bones feature seems timed. When I started the game, it said 2 more weeks for Dinosaur fossils. I didn't understand that. Didn't find any bones yet though. |

Good to see pedestrians finally walking around. I hope their new game approaches things where you can visit villages and there are people walking around, going about their business. For most of NMS's lifetime as a game, the "towns" have been mostly vacant other than beings standing at their booths to sell stuff. Or pilots by their ships.

The sky diving looks fun.
The crater looks good. If you pause that video at 0:59 seconds, notice the vertical lines during the warp drive flight. Those were there from day 1 launch, and they still haven't fixed those. Why would there be vertical lines during a warping effect? It looks like a glitch. Only main thing I want to see aside from more more terrain variety per planet, would be the ability to actually fully control your ship when near the ground so you can crash it if you want or aren't paying attention. There is light bumping into stuff, but no serious damage allowed. The game should take off the training wheels after all these years since 2016, now 2025. What is going on with their Light a Fire game? That thing was announced years ago. |

That is cool they were able to create something similar to the Falcon.
I did test out the ability to leave the ship in space and it's nice, but I wasn't able to go far from the ship, which makes sense since the ship is the home base. The clouds look much better now with the update for PS5's volumetric clouds. Probably got tips from Burning Shores Horizon 2's great clouds. I wish they'd expand that also to the great variety in Horizon 2's map. With the planets, Hello Games insists that most planets are a single theme in their galaxy. They should create a few thousand planets with several terrains to discover per planet. So sand, water, mountains, thick Endor Forest jungle (nothing like that in NMS), plains, rock formations, different ecosystems, winter, summer, Fall, Spring type weather per planet. That would be really great and end the "There is no need to explore this planet as it all mostly looks like this landing spot". Reduce the amount of "Incoming Storm"s too. Way too many storms in NMS. |

I'm also in Creative mode, which makes it easier, but I am certain it nerfs/disables a lot of the power up gear. My warp won't let me go more than 2 systems. When I was on Normal mode before a lot of updates, I could warp probably 4 systems ahead. It was great but they erased my save data with the new updates. That's when I just gave up and went to creative mode since, but feel it's not the full experience of upgrades possible.
