I'm hoping for the best, but I think they were all restored from the original 16mm (not sure about Anthro)? Fabulous have said this is coming from 35mm. So I'm not expecting it to look as good. I'd like to see a version with unblurred nudie pics, but I doubt that will ever happen.

Their blu-ray was quite good. And the upcoming boxset looks cool.

But if this is indeed their fist 4K - and on top of that for this peculiar film considering its humble origins - doubts are legit.

I like the movie a lot, but I'll wait for reviews on this one.

I believe the Playboy pinups have always been blurred in all public releases for legal reasons. So having them unblurred would require the original negative or at least an original 16mm print. Neither appears to be available anymore.

The UK's very own Fabulous Films? They can't even release quality blu-rays. I can only imagine what happens when they bring their very special brand of incompetence and laziness to the UHD format. Just make sure you keep omitting those subtitle tracks for the hearing impaired, fellas. Can't have that kind of wasteful outlay impacting the company's bottom line, amirite?

Honestly of all the Carpenter films, this is the one I thought would never get a 4K

But ehhh...Fabulous Films, that's even worse than a 101 Films release

If Dixnee doesn't play ball, that honor may actually still go to Big Trouble in Little China......

Default Fabulous Films question

So I tried ordering through Fabulous Films website and it looks like they will not ship to U.S. Even though when I Google if they do it states Yes. So my question is will this be available to order from Amazon UK or websites like DiabolikDVD?

I always joked that we would see Dark Star hit 4K UHD disc before Big Trouble In Little China. It was always a joke though and now the joke is on me.

Dark star, I see you in the morning
Dark star a-sleeping next to me
Dark star, let the memory of the evening
Be the first thing that you think of
When you open up your smile and see me, dark star

Now I'm going to have that in my head all day. Pretty fine song though.

One of Carpenter’s weaker efforts but I’ll grab it nonetheless if for no other reason than the nostalgic value it holds as a film I watched countless times on cable as a kid.

I wonder if it was removed because of the f-bomb.

Now where is that guy who insists that this should have the 'non seamless branching' seen on the dvd?

It's funny, but I've reviewed any number of FF's releases over the years, including prestige ones from last year, and have a pretty good relationship with their PR department.

About 2 weeks ago, I sent a message to their usual PR people about getting a review copy DS so as to spread the word. Not a peep from them! They usually reply the same day, but nothing. Not sure if they just aren't sending out discs anymore, or that Dark Star is one they want to keep close to their collective chests, I don't know.

If FF pull this off, fair play to them.

They're not the first POS label to pull themselves out of the void, by suddenly releasing decent UHDs.

Look at Shameless' release of Four Flies on Grey Velvet, a label I wouldn't piss on, if they were on fire.
