I'd pay top dollar for a Sin City 4K UHD Blu-ray and/or a The Girl Next Door(2005)/Elisha Cuthbert 4K Blu-ray...or even digital only. Anyone know if The Girl Next Door was shot on film or just digital? I assume film, since it was out in 2005, likely shot in 2004 & before digital shoots mainstream. Like both films & top 2 dream girl celebs of all time -Alba(1999-2005/6 & Elisha Cuthbert (2000-2004/2005). I'm sure Sin City was shot on film. Curious why no 4K HDR by now but unsure what The Girl Next Door shot on.

Sin City was shot and finished on HDCAM SR tape, so there's really not a lot more fine detail they could eek out of that one. It was all done in a 10-bit color space so it would have that going for it - https://www.postmagazine.com/Publica...-SIN-CITY.aspx

Yes it was a digital thing. And lots of CGI/background plate stuff in it. A technical kind of shoot on the filming front. Would there even really be a lot to "go back to".
As to how it will look on 4K w/ HDR that depends on Rodriguez view of HDR/WCG on the studio side. The movie has already been tackled in other avenues. To pleasing results the demo material. Really stands out in 10-bit upscaled. Breathes life into the mid 2000's DI master. Which with (as mentioned) the HDCAM SR tape finish? Is what the studio and colorist hired would be working with effectively anyways at source. Should be a pearler on 4K UHD. It deserves to be at any rate. |

The BD holds up shockingly well. I mean, it looks really good. Reference quality. I'm not sure if an upscale of the 2K DI would expose 'stuff' in 4K or not as we've seen with other films. Yes, I could see obvious improvements with the use of HDR and maybe the H.265 compression (if done well) helps things, but like I said, it could show stuff I don't want to see either. But bring it on.
