If it’s at least 762 times better than TRON: LEGACY’s 3-D we should be doing pretty good. Hopefully they learned from last time.

I only wish we still lived in an era where anyone besides James Cameron could shoot a native 3D blockbuster for Disney. 2010 and the proceeding six years were exciting times for 3D.

Well this is good news, 90%+ chance it will be released on Disney+ in 4K 3D for Apple Vision Pro owners. Currently the best way to watch 3D at home.

Debatable. Clarity, brightness, etc, perhaps, but movies are a family affair for me and watching as a group is and will always be better than strapping a device to my face and isolating myself from the world. Works for games for me, but not movies.

Tron Ares 3D getting a conversion, that could be really good news if Stereo D SDFX and or Prime Focus DNEG are handling it and Disney pays for a Marvel quality 3D conversion with strong and medium 3D.

That would be nice, agreed. I think Paul WS Anderson would've kept at it too. He seemed to really enjoy the whole process of filming in 3D for awhile there until his producers probably lost interest and support for it, with evidence of Resident Evil Final Chapter not being cut for 3D and a milder 3D conversion too.

Like the Golden age and Silver Age of 3D in theaters, this Modern Age of 3D cinema seemed to thrive for a nice string of 3D films before mainstream audiences lost interest and the long-time 3D fans remained.

3D fans still supporting 3D even if it's a trickle in 3D theaters and home blu ray 3D as of 2025 (since really getting rolling with Avatar 1 in late 2009, but prior to that, I remember Beowulf in 2007 and then apparently Open Season was 2006 in 3D theaters). Not counting the Imax theme park 3D theaters, which are limited releases.

Got the IMAX 3D trailer for this alongside Thunderbolts, looks like it'll be a fun 3D ride. It also says that it was filmed for IMAX, so I'm hoping that the expanded ratio scenes will be plentiful.

I wish they would just stick to one ratio or another as while I like expanded aspect ratio presentations at home, I hate watching things letterboxed when I know there is a version that uses up more of my TV screen. It seems like with these releases after Black Widow there is a definite "best" version but all we get to see at home is an inferior "this will do" version.

3D Previews before Thunderbolts 3D (medium 3D layered film):
Tron 3 Ares 3D. Mild to medium 3D layers. They didn't push it far enough.
Fantastic Four trailer 2: Medium 3D layers. Nice!

I think this 3D conversion has more potential as a conversion than Tron Legacy's conservative filmed 3D, but from the trailer, it's pretty tame 3D. The trailer looks really good though and the music from NIN, great.

I didn't watch Tron: Legacy in 3D, but after reading all your comments, I'll be sure to watch Tron: Ares in 3D.

Tron legacy had horrible 3D theatrically. I felt betrayed since it was that bad. I later bought it and watched it on my active plasma setup and still felt the same.

However after watching it on my 2016 OLED I really dug how the 3D lent it self to the razor sharp contrast and now absolutely love it.

Looking forward to this next one in 3D as a result

Unfortunately there won't be anywhere near me showing this in 3D. I doubt any of the (few) cinemas around here even have 3d capable projectors anymore.

Saying that, the 3D on Tron Legacy was so minimal that it was a waste of time. Apparently something to do with problems caused by double-imaging issues on account of the massive light-dark contrasts in the film. I don't even bother watching my 3DBD of this one, I just stick with the 2D.
I doubt that Ares would be better.

If the realD trailers are going to be any indication of the 3D, then wow is it going to be awful and full of ghosting. I know this is theatre dependant, unfortunately I live in an area with no good 3D projections and the owners don't care about it

I hear your concerns.
The 3D trailer has mild to medium 3D layers, but only slightly better than Tron Legacy's mostly mild 3D. Hopefully there are some strong 3D shots yet to be shown in the final 3D movie on 10/10/25.

Sorry to hear that your theater projectors there aren't properly set up. My Regal is like that too. Cinemark though, excellent 3D theaters by me I'm relieved to say.

I saw the 3D trailer for Tron 3 Ares in theaters and it's mild to medium 3D layers. I didn't notice any ghosting because of that. If this went for strong 3D, with the bright glowing lines against the darkness of night, it would be really tough to post-edit that in 3D without zooming in or out to correct it too much, since the 3D glasses in theaters can't mask out all of the light.

Yeah unfortunately we don't have good 3D cinemas here. We only have Cinemark and all of them are not good and have some variable degrees of crosstalk/ghosting

Tron 3 will have the programs and special AI evolved programs strike out from the computer grid, attempting to take over Earth. Will be interesting to see Jeff Bridges return in a role. Probably as a program absorbed after Tron Legacy.

That is the Cinemark theater with bad projection? That is frustrating and surprising but thanks for mentioning it. My Cinemark might be a newer theater, and with a more concerned staff as they have perfect calibration/alignment of the 3D projectors since 2007's 3D Beowulf.

Sadly, Regal theaters 3D projection sounds like what you have there. Misaligned, double images on the sides at all times, dimly lit (so they can save on bulb replacement costs), and a bad presentation that will turn away new potential fans for 3D cinema. The theaters at fault do no favors for 3D, but is a case by case situation.

Yes it's Cinemark. They're the only chain here that does 3D and most of the showings are okay at best in terms of their 3D presentations. There's always crosstalk/ghosting no matter the movie, screen, or auditorium, there's some that have less, but it's an XD auditorium they hardly show 3D movies in

Thanks. I've spoken to Regal a few times, and the best they could do is say the projectors are handled by an outside source, so they can't adjust them during a show for the 3D calibration that is all double imaged on each side for every movie for years, and a free movie ticket one other time. I stopped going there after that. Unless I'm in that area and it's a 2D only movie.
