I did want to order a couple of 2-CD music score/soundtrack album titles from Screen Archives with a Blu-ray title, but one of them will have to wait until a later time (sooner rather than later). Ordered a copy of Licence to Kill.

I thought there was a slim chance that La-La Land Records and Screen Archives might get some more copies of Octopussy back in stock (but not a lot of copies as this was one of the first Bond films to get the expanded CD soundtrack treatment).

The only ones I haven't been as interested in getting have been Live and Let Die and The Man with the Golden Gun (I'll double-check but I was hoping the version of the former's title track sung by the female artist in the Fillet O'Soul bar which Bond and Leiter visit, was going to be on the album. The same with Alice Cooper's version of the latter).

It had been a while since I last ordered from La-La Land Records, so I'd forgot how they pack their titles. Happy with how Octopussy was packed (one of the boutique labels did the same thing when I used to order from them (the item (packed in bubble-wrap) in a bubble-backed envelope inside another bubble-backed envelope).

Not long now until my copy of Licence to Kill is shipped from Screen Archives (ordered it with a Classicflix Blu-ray pre-order title).

Glad to see you were able to get Octopussy. I see it is back in stock. My La La Land orders always show up in a bubble mailer. I don't recall how Harry Potter came.

They're having a 20% off sale right now. Of course The Lost World is OOS.

Received a shippng notification earlier for my Screen Archives order of the Licence to Kill expanded soundtrack CD album and a new Blu-ray film title.

This past weekend, I was thinking about maybe getting the Man with the Golden Gun expanded Bond soundtrack release before the sale ends, but I think I'll pass. The ones I've purchased to date were the ones that were at the top of my want list.

One of the new Intrada Records titles available to order on their website and on Screen Archives' is First Blood.

Holding out hope Live and Let Die comes back in stock before the sale ends. Back in March they did say it would be back in stock in May

Of the 3 Bond scores I received I'm really surprised most by License to Kill (even though I like the film a lot and consider it Bond's final adventure in my cannon) because:
1. Not really a Kamen fan outside of Highlander and some work with Rock artists.
2. He couldn't use the title song as a theme/motif--a top 3 Bond song for me.
3. Couldn't really recollect any music outside of the New Age-y stuff.

I was really impressed by his take/use of the of the James Bond theme throughout the film taking up slack for #2 on my list and bringing back Vic Flick (RIP). Besides, it is just a wonderful listening experience outside of the film. This is now a favorite non-Barry score (depending on what other discoveries I make down the line).

Were the songs by Gladys Knight and Patti LaBelle recorded after Michael Kamen recorded the music score for Licence to Kill? Something that has puzzled me, is whether Maurice Binder created his final Bond title sequence before the aforementioned two songs were recorded, as they're only credited during the end credits (compare this to The Living Daylights, where the songs by A-ha and The Pretenders were credited in the title sequence and were incorporated into John Barry's music score).

I've forgot the name of the book, but I can check. It's about the music in the Bond films, and one part I found fascinating was about John Barry's work on Diamonds Are Forever (it and For Your Your Eyes Only's next anniversaries are next year). I'm hoping that all of John Barry's recorded music score for Diamonds (both used and unused) is put on a future expanded CD album, if they can be located.

And with On Her Majesty's Secret Service, I've imagined in my head that if an expanded music score/soundtrack album happens for that, that it'll be a 3-CD set.

I agree about Licence to Kill's music score and soundtrack. What Michael Kamen managed to do with what he had (no Gladys Knight and Patti LaBelle songs to incorporate into the music score), I think they did a very good job. The film itself is underrated in my opinion (it's had a label that is still stuck to it that it's "MI6 meets Miami Vice"), and I believe has been reassessed and is better received these days. It was the end of an era for me (GoldenEye was very good (including the video game), but Licence to Kill is the last top-notch Bond film for me, and it's a shame that Timothy Dalton didn't get to make a third film).

Two highlights of the score for me are just before the end of the pre-credits sequence
[Show spoiler](when Bond and Felix are heading down to the church) and as Pam appears inside Sanchez's headquarters in front of Dario.

I believe the booklet stated the Knight song was written during the scoring/recording stage. I can't remember what it says about the LaBelle song, but I'm thinking it came after scoring. I'll check my facts when I get home from work--if I remember.

Well, I was way off. The only statement about the songs in the booklet was that they were "conceived and created entirely separately." I probably merged my experience of reading the booklet with some random yahoo's comments I read on Youtube. I apologize for being the random yahoo in this situation.

USA La-La Land Records sale

I checked La-La Land Records this past weekend, and while there checked for Jurassic Park: The Lost World. It was still 'out of stock'. If the sale does end when it's stated to end (next Saturday), fingers crossed it's back in stock (and ditto with Live and Let Die for member "Rayjg").

I looked at the listing page for The Man with the Golden Gun and was trying to convince myself to get it before the sale ends (the same with another film soundtrack CD album). But I'm going to leave it.

USA Friday the 13th music score/soundtrack albums on CD

Off the top of my head, I can't remember the title or who released it, but some years ago now I decided to get the (at the time) music score/soundtrack CD boxset for the first seven or eight Friday the 13th films. Thought that was going to be it, but of course what starts getting released by La-La Land Records during the last few years? Ultimate Edition CD albums for the first five films in the series. I decided to stick with the boxset I'd got (you can't get every release of films, TV films and television series on physical media, and that includes music).

USA Bond expanded music score/soundtracks news

First found out about this from La-La Land Records' Facebook page earlier, then did a web search for the Variety news article. It's very likely this has already been posted about in the Vinyl section, but there was a bit about the next expanded Bond music score/soundtrack CD album release
[Show spoiler](On Her Majesty's Secret Service):

I believe it was Varese Sarabande that released the boxset. I had just finished buying LLL's single releases of all the films I wanted (first 6) within a year prior to the 1st Ultimate Edition coming out. Now, I know why LLL had such great sales for them at the time I was pretty mad, but decided to stick with my originals as well even though the song on the 1st album is playing at the wrong speed.

Incidentally, if you don't mind going outside the box a bit, an overlooked gem is the game score also by Manfredini. I never played the game and am not really a game music fan (other than Mega Man ), but I like this one a lot. Being from a game, it has periods of music (not every track) that are creepily meditative lulling you in while the music slowly morphs so as not to become droning until stings or frantic, up-tempo music kicks in. It's actually very well crafted with a lot of variety and may even be my favorite F13 score. Sadly, there are no images from the game (or any copyrighted material in the booklet), but that is the only weak point in my view.

If you check out the samples you'll hear the same great quality is there as his film scores. Its regular price is $9.99 for a 2-disc set! And if you can get it as a cart filler during a sale all the better.

Have been going back and forth in my mind between different shopping websites, wondering what to get (Blu-ray titles or some music CDs in the La-La Land Records sale. I did have the Friday the 13th video game music CD album on my want list).

Had put a few titles in the basket, including the aforementioned video game CD album, and initially it seemed like PayPal wasn't the only payment option. However, PayPal is still the only option. PayPal's exchange rate is poorer than the one used if there is a card payment option. Will check out Screen Archives to see if they have the video game CD (I checked earlier and they don't have the Man with the Golden Gun expanded soundtrack CD).
