George Wendt, an American actor and comedian who earned six consecutive Emmy nominations for his performance as Norm Peterson on the beloved NBC comedy series “Cheers,” died Tuesday morning at his home. He was 76.

Wendt’s death was confirmed by his publicist Melissa Nathan with the following statement: “George was a doting family man, a well-loved friend and confidant to all of those lucky enough to have known him. He will be missed forever. The family has requested privacy during this time.”

This one is very sad, speaking as a huge Cheers fan.

A mildly amusing story...

Back in 2019, I went to a convention where I got to meet him briefly and got my photo taken with him.

At that same convention, I also got my photo taken with the 4 actors who voiced the Ninja Turtles in the original 80s/90s cartoon series. Rob Paulsen, who was the voice of Raphael, also voiced Yakko on Anamaniacs. When I was getting the photo with the 4 of them (and since George was at that same convention), I looked at rob and made reference to this scene from Anamaniacs in the video below. He laughed and said they were all (the 4 of them and George) on a local radio show earlier that morning and that episode came up.
