House of the Dragon star Emma D’Arcy has joined Tom Cruise in Oscar-winning filmmaker Alejandro Gonzalez Iñárritu’s untitled feature movie that’s shooting at Pinewood Studios in the UK.

D’Arcy confirmed the news in a comment they released exclusively to Deadline. “I’m delighted to be working with such extraordinary and exacting artists as Alejandro and Tom,” they told us. “They are the masters of their craft, and witnessing them in combination has been a privilege.”

Back in December, Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment announced that Iñárritu’s film will premiere on October 2, 2026. Per the synopsis, the movie concerns “the most powerful man in the world [who] embarks on a frantic mission to prove he is humanity’s saviour before the disaster he’s unleashed destroys everything.”

Iñárritu says the movie is a character-driven comedy with no stunts.

Quote:
I’m so excited. It was an incredible experience with Tom, Sandra Huller, Jesse Plemmons, with Riz Ahmed, but it’s a character driven film mounted on the shoulders of Tom which I knew he was exactly the right person.
Quote:
No, the thing that I can tell you. This is a wild comedy of catastrophic proportions. It’s insane. He makes me laugh every day. The range that I discovered working with Tom is unprecedented for me as a director. I was so ****ing impressed and happy.
Quote:
It’s a brutal comedy. It’s a wild comedy of human nature. It’s scary and funny. It’s beautiful. I will start editing next week.

I am nostalgic for the days when he would just jump on couches

Right? It feels like he’s more concerned with showing off his stunt capabilities than anything else now. Yawn.

I think COVID/strikes really deprived us of Cruise taking detours into different stuff. He consistently used to push himself from an acting standpoint rather than seeing how he can work the next extreme sports thing he wants to master into a narrative. I don't know if it's that he is able to admit that age might be a thing at some point and he needs to get through this athletic stuff while he can... At the same time, I could see him still wanting to do stunts at 80. I have the impression that telling Cruise he can't do something is just a dare.

This movie is sounding good to me - if it's really a comedy, I've always thought that was something Cruise should've done more of. Not that I don't think he's good at everything he's attempted, but he has always been so good with comedic material that I wouldn't mind seeing what he does with that genre (outside of Les Grossman).
