Default Rawhide: The Complete First Season - March 22, 2023

Quote:
Television Western Classic Rawhide is best remembered today for being the program that gave Clint Eastwood his big showbusiness break. The series dealt with cattle drovers taking their herd to market and the adventures they faced along the way. Eric Fleming stars as trail boss Gil Favor with Eastwood playing his second-in-command and 'Ramrod', Rowdy Yates with Paul Brinegar playing trail cook G. W. Wishbone.

Now, enjoy all 22 original black and white episodes of double-barrel bandits, tumble weed wagons as never seen before in stunning high-definition with this worldwide debut Blu-ray set.

Strange that this hasn't been reported by the site given that it's a "worldwide debut".

I'd get a complete set for sure, wonder if Paramount would do that in the US. Not keen on piecemeal seasons and not knowing if they complete the series.

Curious whether this will be region-free since it’s evidently no being released under ViaVision’s Imprint label.

Has anyone on the forum had time yet to watch a few episodes and can give feedback re/ PQ? High-Def Digest has a review up inclusing a few screenshots: https://bluray.highdefdigest.com/114...rstseason.html
From the look of the few screenshots, the transfers seem to be pretty organic. After recently watching ShoutFactory's DVD set of Sam Peckinpah's "The Westerner", I would like to check out more classic Western shows from the golden age of television.

I am wondering whether I should get this now or wait for an eventual release of all seasons in a box set in AU or the US. I don't understand this kind of release strategy at all. Will they give us the rest of the seasons on blu until interest declines and the last few seasons remain unreleased? I remember that season 1 of the Sopranos was released as a stand-alone set first, and only a decade later did we get the full show in a box set. In the worst case, we're in for an incomplete release of Rawhide.

Get it now if you want it, otherwise there won't be enough sales to justify the next season. I wouldn't assume a US label is going to do this.

I'm really enjoying this. Subtitles would have been a nice option. It's interesting seeing the young Clint Eastwood. Paul Brinegar as Wishbone reminds me a bit of the kind of characters that Geoffrey Lewis would later play in many Eastwood films. They even look a bit alike.
Hope they release additional seasons.

What a great shame this went nowhere. I would love to be collecting these from Via Vision alongside their other goodies.

I think if they had released this now, it would've done much better.
Back two years ago, they likely didn't have as many US customers as they do now to get that sales momentum happening.

Season one isn't out of print. So, if it's still being purchased, here's hoping they roll the dice and release the second season.

There seems to have been a lot of vintage TV released on Blu-ray recently. I Love Lucy, Frasier, Bewitched, Murder, She Wrote. Not to mention Knight Rider getting a 4K release!

I could see a complete Blu-ray box set being released of this eventually.

They should have released Rawhide as part of the Imprint label. I think it would have done better as a limited edition. Maybe 2 seasons at a time.
