That 4k is pretty rubbish. Poor encode, color space errors, etc. Needs redone.

I notice Orbit just added this to their pre-orders. I guess they are now carrying import stuff even if there is a Vinegar Syndrome edition.

Nice. I think I'll watch the excellent VS 4k disc again tonight in anticipation of this coming out soon from 88. I've enjoyed revisiting this. The cinematography is quite a bit better than I remembered. The 88 uhd should be a real banger if they nail the encode.

Late to this thread - what other giallo are 88 Films releasing, and how many have Vinegar Syndrome releases too? I'm just curious as I'm new to giallo but am building my collection. UK based here but I don't mind importing from VS.

I'm sorry to hear this, especially considering release date was delayed and one would expect the discs to play flawlessly

It's entirely possible it's just a player-specific issue which only affects a small number of people. Same thing happened to me with 88's release of Absurd. Which reminds me, I still need to test out the replacement copy they sent me.

My copy is finally inbound. Fingers crossed.

What player are you rocking?

88 has been better than most in terms of their uhd functionality with different brands of players. I have all of their 4k disc releases to date. I’ve been lucky and had zero issues using their discs, with Oppo (203), Samsung (8500m) and Panny (9000) players. Their uhds also boot up quickly and aren’t glitchy with chapter break switches or fast-forwarding. Hopefully you can get it sorted. Oddly, I’m seeing more and more complaints lately from Panny 820 users and newer releases from VS and Indicator. Odd, that.

PS5, which (lack of DV support aside) has always served me well. I have an LG player but haven't used it in ages, it felt like every third disc or so was having playback issues. Infuriating!

Yes I first had two Sony 800 4k units, and they were both glitch city, ultimately freezing up completely on more than half my discs and locking up the player. They had to go. No amount of software updates or reboots helped. Extremely frustrating. I couldn't even play the Studiocanal UK 4k disc for Prince of Darkness. Total blu screen with crazy rainbow strips running through it. Couldn't even get to the start menu. And yet the UK EFNY, They Live and The Fog discs from the same 4k set worked fine on start up (but would of course pixelate and freeze multiple times). It seems seriously rando and disc-authoring-specific. Braveheart, Arrival, Annihilation, Casino, all were a no-go on those Sony 800s.

I've never had any trouble since, on any other player(s). I don't have a PS console though.

It's likely too early for comparisons with the VS UHD, but how's the image quality on the 88 Films UHD?

I always had a soft spot for this one.

I have an LG player and a Sony, the Sony frequently glitches playing discs that the LG has no issues with. It's one of the reasons I don't want to buy 4K only releases. I'll watch this one on the LG, thanks for the heads up.

Anyway, my copy came today and again both discs were in perfect condition which I am always grateful for.

Anyone else take a gander at this 4k yet? Mine just landed. I'll try to give it a spin by tomorrow night.

I just ordered my 88 Films copy. Did you have a chance to compare yet?

I can't comment on the VS, but the 88 Films one is solid.
