Default is it safe?

How/When will I know its safe to buy a Samsung BD player? The updated players should hit the shelves this month or next correct? Is there a way to tell when they were manufactured so I know the salesperson isn't trying to sell me an older model?

The month of manufacture is on the back of the unit.
