Default Star Wars Spin-off with sequel trilogy character

Quote:
While Star Wars fans have yet to witness the release of a theatrical outing following 2019’s Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker, rumors regarding future projects continue to surface on the internet, with the latest one centering around a potential spin-off movie. Recent speculations suggest that Lucasfilm is presently planning to sanction a spin-off film that would revolve around the setup of the sequel trilogy (Episodes VII-IX).

According to renowned entertainment scooper Daniel Richtman, Lucasfilm is eyeing to expand the world of Star Wars’ sequel trilogy by moving ahead with a spin-off feature.

In his latest Patreon update, Richtman noted, “Lucasfilm is discussing a spinoff film to the sequel trilogy.” However, he failed to specify the character from episodes seven, eight, and nine that would lead the said project. “Unclear for which character,” the insider added.

So far, the Star Wars franchise has welcomed two spin-off movies, 2016’s Rogue One and 2018’s Solo: A Star Wars Story. Additionally, Lando was announced as the third spin-off in the long-running science-fiction film series back at Disney Investor Day 2020. While initially envisioned as a TV series, the project has since transitioned into a feature-length film.

Centering around Donald Glover’s take on the charismatic Lando Calrissian, who made his Star Wars debut with the Alden Ehrenreich-led Solo, the project has not received any positive update for the better half of two years.

Despite Daniel Richtman’s update, Lucasfilm has yet to share an official word regarding the proposed sequel trilogy spin-off of Star Wars. The franchise is currently on course to make a much-awaited comeback to the big screens with 2026’s The Mandalorian & Grogu, ending a seven-year hiatus from theaters.

In addition to the Pedro Pascal-led flick, work on Shawn Levy’s Star Wars: Starfighter, featuring Ryan Gosling in the lead, and James Mangold’s untitled Star Wars movie is also progressing well.

Be very surprising if they plan a whole trilogy around any character other than Rey.

Who else are they going to make a trilogy about, Babu Frik?

As far as I can tell its just a one movie spin-off based on a character introduced in the sequel trilogy. Not an actual new trilogy.

They went nowhere with Poe. He was originally suppose to be Rey's love interest, then all of a sudden, oops, nevermind.

You're giving him too much credit.

Was he reckless? Sure. But Holdo could have just looped in some key trusted people to her plan. It was a complicated situation.

Also don't forget about this guy.

DJ wouldn't even have been a factor if Poe didn't take it upon himself to send Finn out on a secret mission that was a complete waste of time. He disobeyed direct orders in the beginning and staged a mutiny and the only reason he wasn't executed on the spot is because Leia and Holdo were totally hornt for him.

I really liked Poe in the first film (Oscar Isaac is terrific in the part), but the fact that the character went from afterthought to major figure without anyone thinking it through - in any of the films - is really apparent, from abandoning Finn on Jakku, to recklessly getting everyone killed, to somehow being elevated to general, to delivering the dumbest line in the entire series, Poe really drew the shortest straw in the script-writing sweepstakes.

They could create a spin off movie on how Emperor Palpatine has been planning his rebirth for centuries, using clones, and then how he found and made the clones for Snoke too. Then finally, at the end of the spin off movie, show him warping into the body of his clone after his plan to take over another Jedi doesn't work as planned. Fill in the gaps of Rise of Skywalker.

That's a really good point!

Which character would you like to see have a spin-off film?

How did Poe disobey an order? The bombers were already out. That whole sequence made zero sense.

I'll take an R2 spinoff which reveals R2D2 told the whole 9 movie story with embellishments and now decides to tell what really happened. It's easy to misunderstand R2.

I think they were telling Poe to get back to base, but he resisted and said now is the time to strike, and he defied orders to return, determined to destroy the threat enemy ship.

In a different reality, one where Oscar Isaac got the screenwriting he deserved, it'd be Poe. But Poe never really had a character arc, and the character that had his character arc totally abandoned was Finn. I'd like to see Finn continue his adventures, if I have to choose someone from the sequel trilogy.

If I remember correctly, Leia wants to cut and run but Poe insists on engaging the Dreadnought. And then a bunch of people get killed and they cut and run anyway. But you're right, like much of the sequel trilogy, the story didn't make a whole lot of sense and the Lucasfilm brain trust really dropped the ball. I don't think I've watched The Rise of Skywalker in its entirety since the theater.

Giving Poe too much faith? Let's not forget Poe was supposed to die early in The Force Awakens.

I know it won’t happen but I’d love to Finn as a Jedi on some adventure. I can’t dream about it…
