Australia When bad prices go good

two years ago when i started my adventure with blu rays the price for a blu was around the $40-$50 now days iv'e noticed at Target and kmart they have some warner titles for around $15-20 and this week target was selling $40 paramount titles for only $20 a piece.

and at jb hifi you can normally get new releases for $30 and most titles between the $20-30 range.

so im wondering is everyone stocking up on alot more titles now?

in my case its kind of soured my purchasing because when i see all these cheaps blus there is alot of stuff i want to buy but they are all in the $40 range and two years ago i would have dropped the cash but now with all the cheaper priced one's floating around its getting alot harder to spend that much.

is anyone else in the same boat?

It does help but I only buy a select few anyway. The price drops are probably linked both to supply and demand but also as we are finally producing blus ourselves.

I've noticed the odd 20th Century Fox title drop in price, Sunshine, Behind Enemy Lines, Species.... and some new release titles are quite low in price. 'Im Not There' I saw in store for $NZ24...

I tend not to buy titles over $NZ40... so its good some titles are finally coming down in price. Cheapest I have seen here in NZ was 'Flight Plan' and 'Dark Water' for $NZ15 new.

Aussie Dollar is strong these days. That probably helps the price reduction.

Put it this way. If Aussie was 0.6 US, the prices would have been about 25% higher. Yes you are right there is a general downward trend in blu-ray prices which is good.

I have to agree with this comment. I'm in NZ and when our dollar is down, the prices are up pretty much straight away, when it's up you rarely see them drop.

I drew a line at not paying over $40 for any blu's. It takes a fair bit of restraint, and a whole lot of patience. I just wait till they come down in price, which in the case of re-releases is fairly quickly.

JB Hi-Fi takes forever with their stuff online though. It took 3 weeks for my Die Hard Quadrilogy to arrive while Amazon sent me Watchmen Director's Cut in 3 weeks. Both taking 3 weeks but one is overseas!

I'm in New Zealand, and I remember when Iron Man and Transformers first came out on Blu-ray, they both retailed for about $89 each...thankfully times have changed, haha.

pricing is a bit weird sometimes. I normally shop online through ezydvd and notice their pricing is all over the place. Some older releases still selling for $50 while some new releases selling for $30. Might depend on what they bought them for themselves and whether its older stock.

Highest price I saw for both of those when they came out was $59.95. 'Walk the Line' though is still for sale for $75 at The Warehouse in my city.

What's pissing me off I'm holding off on buying "Cars" (cos I've got the DVD, but wanna upgrade) but it seems Disney / Pixar films are going UP from $40 to $45-50!!! Maybe it's coinciding with the new film "UP"? Lol
Even Jb is listing Cars at $48! Why?? I want to collect all the disney pixar blus but at this rate I might turn away from disney pixar until they start lowering prices!

But other releases like Sin City in it's first week were 29.98 at JB which they tend to do for most of their new releases. If only they could make the DVD version more expensive than the Blu, then that will be the day where tides will turn.

Yet on another note, I picked up Ice Age 1 and 2 from Kmart $29 and 25 respectively, in order to clear out the individuals for the Ice Age Trilgoy boxset coming soon. This is another way of getting cheap blus is to watch for the release of boxsets, and the price of the individuals should go down.

Aussie dollar is strong atm.... but prices for new releases are still around the $40 mark.
Really annoys me. Can buy region free BDs from US sites ( amazon) and save money even including postage plus get tehm before released in AUS in some case.

What's the deal ?
