Unfortunately the C5 does not have that fix.

Personally i think it's helping move things in the right direction but this isn't a proper fix which LG should hopefully keep working on to release within the next few months and this is moreso a stop gap.

I think we can say now the LG G5 is basically the overall TV to beat for price to performance with this firmware but waiting a full year for all the fixes and buying on sale probably will get you a great bargain.

Personally i'm stoked to see where the hell things go for the next years models and after that till i upgrade around 2028/2029. I've also decided that even though the brightness will probably be touching 4x the amount of my current LG CX, i want to also go up to 77" and just absolutely double whammy my eyeballs with the upgrades. No way in hell i can fit anything bigger than that though in my room.

You should stay away from 1st gen tech. The G5 is basically new tech. Wait for the G6 when those bugs are worked out. LG rushed the G5 to the market to compete with QD-OLED.

I mean, honestly speaking, as long as they can sort the issues out vis firmware, the G5 is really a fantastic TV even though it entirely dropped the MLA for this year and if it got it back, with an upgraded tandem stack, it could be a massive upgrade so i follow for tech but what i really like is that LG models recently have been great value after a year when the new models release and you can buy them on a discounted clearance price. At that point, the price to performance compared to most competitors in my eyes at least is a no brainer.

That said, i am not going to upgrade until circa 2028/2029, so i'll simply be saving up for a 77" model and hoping to see LG and others duke it out for the best upgrades till then.

How likely is LG to bring back MLA next year?

Honestly i don't think it's likely. Not impossible BUT fairly unlikely and that's because i think LG will do an updated RGB Tandem stack for 2026 models just like how MLA had a 2023 release and an improvement in 2024 models, now for the G5 they dropped it for the RGB Tandem stack but got even brighter. So they'll use this stack again for 2026 models and i think the earliest we will see MLA return and combined with RGB Tandem is 2027.

I think behind the scenes they are having issues balancing the huge boost in brightness of MLA and trying to keep the blacks perfect. The G4 versus the G5 already shows off this issue and QD OLEDs versus WOLED have shown off a tendency to have raised blacks too. I think LG will want to let things cook a bit more and unless Samsung drastically ups their game, they will take their time.

That's why i think if i am upgrading to a new TV around 2028/2029, it will be a solid upgrade over my current LG CX and i want to try go a size bigger if i can on sale to 77"

Recently, I've been seeing all these articles claiming that the G5 is better than the G4. Are they being honest?

Yes, LG Electronics's New 2025 G5 has LG Display's New Multi-Stack OLED panel and LG Electronics new LG’s a11 Gen 2 SoC Processor.

These are two very nice upgrades for LG's New 2025 Flagship OLED TV. Higher peak luminance that renders higher contrast with all images form all content, and better color fedility and color saturation than the 2024 G4 MLA OLED TV.

The new a11 Gen 2 processor has more memory to better control and take advantage of all of the enhanced color gamut and higher contrast ratio so the images have more depth and detial.

With all this said all of the above benefits of the G5 over the G4 are moderate, but they do add up to a better overall picture quality with the new G5 Gallery Series Multi-Stack OLED TV.

Does the G5 even improve near black or black crush over the G4?

Why did the G5 drop DTS? Will it return?

I was thinking of buying G4 then read G5 is better, but now I read G5 doesn't have DTS and G4 does.

Get an AVR if you want DTS.

I recently upgraded from a 65" CX to a 77" G5. I know there are some complaints about the firmware but I haven't noticed any issues at all. VERY happy with the upgrade.

How are you liking your G5? Why did you choose it over competing sets, such as QD-OLED sets from Samsung and Sony?

No.

If you're going to have an amazing display, consider getting an AVR to go along with it. You can start with a 2.1 system; you don't need to have a full-blown Dolby Atmos system.

Loving it so far. When the display shows a bright white image it still shocks me a little how much brighter it is than my CX.
As for why I chose it, there's a few smaller things which in the end add up to big things.
Firstly I managed to get it for 40% off retail price during the EOFY sales.
Samsung refusing to support Dolby Vision takes them out of the equation. Panasonic OLED isn't available in Australia. I do like Sony TVs, but I couldn't get them for anywhere near the same price.
Plus smaller things like I already had an LG mount on the wall that had 30cm x 30cm VESA spacing (I didn't use the included mount as I didn't want it flat), and I didn't have to reprogram my harmony remote.
Also I just think that for mixed content use I really like the way LG TVs are setup with the settings keeping per input, per display type (SDR/HDR/Dolby Vision).
