if you connect directly to the tv you will have a problem..not everyone has surround sound. A lot of sound bars do not decode dts either.

Oh and you are very wrong as soo many discs have dts....

you can twist it any way you want but removing something from a tv makes it less desireable.

Well, no. You still have Dolby Digital/Atmos. Dolby Atmos is a superior immersive sound format to DTS-X.

BTW, I was talking about 4K Blu-ray disc. DTS-MA reached its peak on 1080P Blu-ray.

I not saying which is better..I am saying there are so many discs in DTS that won't play nice with the tv . JMO but LG was wrong to do this with the G5. Their tv's where always top notch because of all they could do..now they are dropping back. What's next??..no DV??.

Instead of worrying about a soon-to-be-defunct surround sound format like DTS, LG should focus on solving the issue of black crush.

When will it be gone? More importantly why? A lot of Blu-rays are in DTS.

I don't know the exact day it would be gone, but it's dying on the vine. DTS is on Blu-ray disc, but optical discs are on the way out, and it's going to take DTS with it. DTS-X presence on UHD disc, in my opinion, is wanting. Although I have a few UHD discs encoded with DTS-X. DTS had its heyday when 1080p SDR Blu-ray discs were in, kind of supplanting Dolby TrueHD as the predominant sound format.

When UHD discs came, the pendulum swung back to Dolby and Dolby Atmos.

For better or worse, streaming is the predominant way people watch content, and in that space, it's Dolby Atmos. DTS doesn't have a presence in the world of streaming.

better tell those that remastered Star Wars original theatrical release that you can down load in 4K..tracks are DTS

Knock it all you want..once the way to go, DTS is encoded on so many discs,UHD's, Blu Rays, even DVDS that people own and use EVERY day. Very foolish to say..I don't care....I 'm not going to comply with consumer needs or wants. You will never stop those from playing back their discs nor force them to replace them. Instead consumers will continue to buy the discs and the tvs and AVR's that support them.

Wipe out DTS and discontinue the format??..not in your lifetime , I guarantee it.

a little read for you

Many UHD discs feature impressive DTS:X soundtracks. Some of the most frequently cited examples on Reddit include the Dune films, Mad Max: Fury Road, The Matrix, Top Gun: Maverick, Blade Runner 2049, and the Spider-Verse movies. Users also highlight the Harry Potter 4K releases, 1917, and Ford v Ferrari as having particularly strong DTS:X audio.
Why DTS:X on UHD Discs Matters:

Immersive Audio:
.

DTS:X is an object-based audio format, meaning it can create a more three-dimensional soundstage with sounds placed more precisely around the listener, including overhead.
Superior to Streaming:
.
Physical media like UHD Blu-rays offer higher quality audio and video compared to streaming services, which often heavily compress the audio.
Demo-Worthy Sound:
.
Many of the DTS:X soundtracks on UHD discs are considered to be demo-worthy, meaning they showcase the capabilities of home theater setups.

Specific Recommendations:

Dune (both movies): The DTS:X mixes are often praised for their immersive and dynamic sound.

Mad Max: Fury Road: A classic example of a film with a fantastic DTS:X soundtrack, known for its intense action sequences and powerful bass.
Blade Runner 2049: The sound design is highly detailed and immersive, with excellent use of the soundstage.
Spider-Verse Movies: These films are known for their incredibly dynamic and engaging DTS:X soundtracks.
Harry Potter 4K: The entire series is mentioned as having excellent DTS:X audio.
1917: The sound design is incredibly immersive, making the viewer feel like they are in the trenches.
Ford v Ferrari: The racing scenes are particularly impressive in DTS:X.
Top Gun: Maverick: The aerial sequences are a highlight, with planes flying around the listener.

According to FlatpanelsHD, there are only 113 UHD Blu-ray discs with DTS-X encoded soundtracks. Sorry to say, but that's a minuscule, infinitesimal amount of discs when compared to the overall number of UHD Blu-Ray discs released.

I would agree, DTS-MA ruled on SDR Blu-Ray disc; however, we have progressed beyond SDR, we have moved to 4K UHD content, which is the reason why we invest so much into high-performing OLED and Mini-LED displays, to take advantage of that format. Most of the content we're getting today is available to us via streaming, especially as more and more companies stop making Blu-ray players and releasing Blu-ray disc titles.

Hardcore A/V enthusiasts, at some point, must accept the inevitable that optical disc and hardware will go the way of the dodo bird, into the dustbin of obsolescence. Streaming is how we will consume 4K UHD video and audio, and DTS-X is all but non-existent in the streaming space.

I don't understand how an enthusiast can be miffed or upset that the latest sets from LG, Sony, or Samsung don't come with DTS decoders. DTS is not a factor. If you want and love DTS so much, and you want to play old DTS DVDs and SDR Blu-Rays, just get an AVR that decodes that format.

that's also wrong..all you need to do is set your player to PCM from Bitstream....If you have a lip sync issue the tv has correction also some players have lip sync correction.

Oh and please stop the doomsday prediction of optical discs..heard that all b4 by those like yourself who actually believe that everyone has access to high speed internet and high speed streaming.

also a search on blu ray.com shows 2569 4K discs with DTS and over 34,000 titles overal with DTS..that's a lot compared to your incorrect number.

I already agreed that DTS has a substantial presence on SDR Blu-Ray discs. However, the DTS/DTS-X presence on UHD Blu-Ray is minuscule at best. When it comes to UHD Blu-Ray and UHD streaming, Dolby/Dolby Atmos rules there. Quite honestly, DTS-X is superfluous because Dolby Atmos is sufficient; we don't need DTS for immersive audio.

I don't understand your complaint about 2025 TVs not having DTS, when you don't plan on having them connected to a high-quality audio system that can take advantage of audio formats like Dolby Atmos and DTS-X. Relying on TV speakers to play back high-quality audio formats like DTS-X defeats the purpose.

Anyway, you were complaining about the LG G5 not having DTS. I'm trying to figure out why that is such a deal breaker. Who would buy a high-quality UHD TV set like LG G5, Samsung S95F, or Sony A95L for the primary purpose of playing SDR content?

well in case you haven't noticed...everything is SDR when you turn on your tv. There is the occasional 4K telecast if you have the right boxes from your local provider. 4K is for streaming and disc playback so the majority of the time the average consumer is using his tv for SDR..thus the burn in complaints from the use of logos on lot's of channels.

I don't care that much about 4K alone; that is why I choose to use UHD, which means HDR and 4K. You can have 4K, without HDR; however, that won't give you UHD.
