Default CBS Orders ‘Yellowstone’ Sequel Starring Luke Grimes As Kayce Dutton

https://deadline.com/2025/05/cbs-ord...on-1236388855/

Quote:
The network has ordered the Yellowstone sequel Y: Marshals (working title) for its midseason lineup. The new drama will feature Luke Grimes reprising his role as Kayce Dutton, who joins an elite unit of U.S. Marshals. It will air on Sundays at 9 P.M.

The official logline has Kayce “combining his skills as a cowboy and Navy SEAL to bring range justice to Montana, where he and his teammates must balance family, duty and the high psychological cost that comes with serving as the last line of defense in the region’s war on violence.”

Odd if this is going to be a network procedural - they'll suddenly have to pull back on the swears and overall content levels, I assume.

I wish him the best, but Yellowstone died the moment Kevin Costner's character (John Dutton) was murdered.

They really are trying to milk this franchise as much as possible, what's next... A movie? I'd watch that if they brought back Kevin Costner.

outside of the first two seasons, Kayce was a boring character who Sheridan really didn't know what to do with as the focus was on Beth who had catchphrases and moved merch. as others said, this being a CBS drama just feels like its gonna be watered down for the network.

Kevin Costner decided to leave the show on his own so they had to kill his character because he was never coming back.

I believe another prequel is up next. I think it will be called 1944.

Honestly, Kayce has always been a boring character from start to finish. He's either doing nothing or going extreme threatening to kill kids to find out who killed his dad. If they can actually make him a three dimensional character and not just be there then maybe it'll be decent.

I doubt 1944 is next, The Madison and Dutton Ranch (the early title for Beth and Rip's spinoff) are both probably coming sooner since they actually have some cast

I can agree that he was pretty boring but at least he had something to do those first couple seasons

The most positive thing I can say about him (well, his character) is that he has a strong, wonderful wife, then again it's not a compliment about him, though.

If they made a spinoff show about her, her son, and the Native population than Kacey I'd probably watch it.

It's an odd choice to go from such a serialized prestigious drama to an episodic CBS procedural, but I'm curious to see how they approach it. It could be good - but I have a feeling this is going to be another carbon copy CBS should undistinguishable from the 'Trackers' and 'Fire Country' of the world.

I'm much more excited for "The Madison," "666" and "1944" - even if it seems more and more likely that "666" is going to be combined with the Rip/Beth spinoff and '1944' is "at least 3 years" away - according to Sheridan.

He added superstar wattage, and you won't hear me say I'm glad he left, but he wasn't a compelling enough character. He grunted a lot, played the stoic, silent type, ever available whenever someone needed him or his counsel, but I didn't miss him all that much during the last batch of episodes.

Same. I wish he'd stayed to the end but I ended up not missing him as much as I thought I would during that last batch of episodes. In the end I'd have had no real problem if they'd decided to continue the main series.

As for this spinoff, I'll wait and see. Not sure how it'll work but we'll see.
