Use a microfiber cloth, they're very soft and don't scratch.

With Blu-ray having a hard protective layer, cleaning is not as much of an issue as with DVD or CD formats, as most soft fabrics with do the job, ideally combined with a soft cleaning solution.
The problem with relying upon your t-shirt or other clothing, is that it only takes there to be one microscopic piece of grit, sand, dirt or otherwise to be stuck to the garment for a decent sized scratch to occur. Then you are in trouble as you will need to find a disc repairer to get it out. The key detail when cleaning is not to repeated clean over the same area, take less passes, this minimizes the risk of causing a scratch. In the industry, we recommend optical grade cleaning cloths and a water based CD solution for cleaning, we even have a machine that cleans discs in 3 seconds which is designed for use by traders that require many discs to be cleaned at once either after repair or for rental. For anyone that is interested, the best quality cloth and spray can be found if you search for us by our name. |

I gotta try something.
My Cannibal Holocaust keeps freezing and sure enough there's some sort of thing on the disc. Maybe a drink spilled on it? And just in case you think I'd ever have that happen to one of my discs, a pal bought this for me and watched it before giving it to me. I appreciate that he got it for me but sure wish he had taken better care of it! |

One word of caution: I once used a microfiber terry cloth from a Monster screen cleaning kit. For some reason it started to shed fibers that were left all over the two discs I had cleaned. Oddly, I was unable simply to wipe them off and had to resort to rinsing the discs under the tap. The water did remove all the fibers and the discs played back perfectly fine after air drying for a day or two. Just be careful it doesn't lose fibers, otherwise you should be fine.

This works on any kind of optical disc-take a small amount of liquid hand soap and put the disc data side up under running water, gently rub the soap on the disc with your finger tips then rinse it off and then dry it off gently using a dry soft cloth (old clean under shirts work really well) with a linear motion from center to edge. Simple, huh?

IF I had to clean it (as in finger prints, not scratches), I would use the microfibre cloth that I use to clean my glasses (there are varying degree of quality).
I did receive a brand new BD with a finger print and the movie got stuck (scene stuttering and not moving on) so I removed the disc, noticed the finger print, removed the offending finger print with the cloth for cleaning eye glasses and the disc was fine after that. |

Sorry for bumping an old thread, but I didn't want to create a similar new one unnecessarily.
I recently bought a boxset (digipack) and every single disc was stuck inside the cardboard sleeve with glue that had obviously seeped down from the edges of the packaging. The sticky substance is on the print/picture side of each disc (thankfully), but just wondering what people would recommend to get rid of the glue? I don't want to use anything too harsh. None of the discs are too bad, but I'm paranoid about it gumming up the works inside the player! Any suggestions would be welcome! |
