But the popularity of the films suffered...
Adler-Olsen especially disliked how protagonist Carl Mørck was portrayed in the first 4 films made by Zentropa (Lars Von Trier's production company).

Zentropa had only contractually optioned the first four novels, so Adler-Olsen was free to choose another production company for the other novels and that's how film 5 & 6 are produced by Nordisk Film and feature a completely new cast and creative team - with Adler-Olsen wielding more creative control over the films.

And yes, the Netflix series is great. Can't wait to see what they do with Fasandræberne/The Absent One, my personal favorite of the six films.

I enjoyed the first 4 films but found 4 very depressing(subject matter), are films 5&6 any good? I enjoyed the netflix series and hope they do more seasons.

Personally, I found 5 to be the weakest of the feature films so far. Both in terms of the performances, direction and the story. The 6th is an improvement.

I still think Nikolaj Lie Kaas and Fares Fares is the best duo portraying these characters in feature film (1-4), even knowing that the author wasn't too happy with them.

Yeah the 4th one was pretty bleak. The plot is based around a real place and a real scandal. Women were displaced and kept on that island and some were sterilized against their will. For no reason we today would recognize as legal and justified.

Yeah it takes a lot to upset me and that part of the story really did, I agree with you about Nikolaj Lie Kaas and Fares Fares they are really good as the 2 leads such a shame they were recast.
