What website design SW for someone with no knowledge - Blu-ray Forum

My mom wants to make a small site for here home business but has no knowledge on the subject. What is a good peice of software that will help her out?

Adobe Dreamweaver CS3, 450$.

She needs to know HTML and CSS as well.

Lol, she has zero knowledge of anything but browsing. She may be better off paying someone.

Haha, it only took me like a week to learn HTML. She can learn, it's really easy once you get the hang of it. And Dreamweaver also has "Cheat mode" where you just drag and drop, for beginners or lazy people. No coding required.

On the Mac side there is Rapid Weaver. A while back there was a free version - not sure if it is still there. I liked it so much that I bought the latest version. So simple that even I could use it. Not sure if they have a windows version though.

Now this I will have to have here try first, because if she can't figure this out then I don't want here spending money on anything yet.

I guess I should have specified, it's PC. This site has more MAC users than 99% of the otehr forums I browse.

Does your mom want to make the site purely informative, or does she want to sell things online as well? If she wants to sell things it might be better to have someone do it for her as it's more involved to set up such a system. If it's purely informative, then she could probably do it. HTML is the easiest computer programming language there is and there are a TON of tutorials and reference material online.

In that case, she should serious get a mac and iLife with the iWeb package. It is super easy for setting up a basic but attractive web presence with no web design knowledge.

I serious about this and if you are not interested in providing constant technical support, a mac would be a great choice as it is designed to be used like an appliance by average people.

I don't know what you personal preferences are regarding software and technology but you really should put those aside and try to figure out what would be best for your mother in the long run.

That's another good idea.

I still reccomend Dreamweaver CS3 though. I love it, you can program in almost all web languages. It's got a way more features than iWeb, which is only templates.

iWeb is intended for blogging, Dreamweaver is what all the major sites use.

All you need is Dreamweaver and SwishMax and some motivation to be self-taught.

i love nvu, ive built a few pages with frontpage and dreamweaver, but the nvu is totally free and works just as well, if not better!

Everyone raves about a mac....i guess i should look at getting one sometime
