United Kingdom Sleepy Hollow

Saw this at AmazonUK

Was considering the JP version since it has a TrueHD audio track(the US version doesn't). But this might too and its alot cheaper. Are titles from Optimum Home Entertainment region free?

This is quite exciting news since it probably means a new encode altogether. It should be better than the current US release by all standards. Count me in.

Optimum have a few region free discs, but most are locked I believe. The only hope you have is that its a Paramount title thats already released state side.

I got this one today. Its a very high bitrate, in the 30s at times. The picture is still hardly anything to shout about. Very soft and murky and a real disappointment in my opinion. I remember the HD-DVD and it looks similar, from what I can remember.

The DTS MA soundtrack was superb, from what little I demoed, so thumbs up there.

HUGE disappointment comes in the extras front..... There are NONE!! Come on Optimum releasing.... live up to your name, please!

I don't know if I will keep it given this... Anyone know why Optimum are so adamant on not including extras on their films?? It means I will always skip them on principle. Does anyone share my feelings?

I am sure it's a bit better in the audio department, but I think I will only buy it if it gets a price drop to around a fiver. I bet the r1 DVD has many extras too...
I have just seen a very low review for it on Amazon uk, and that review echoes my feelings, but I think that person was less favourable about it...

Extras on R1 are really not too overwhelming : featurette (a bit lightweght one), audio commentary, trailer and some filmographies. By the way, PQ is rather good for SD, showing acceptable clarity together with intentionaly grainy and desaturated image. So, what is about DNR? Does Optimum filtered the picture to remove excessive grain?

Not sure about multiregion but my colleague has a USA ps3 so I will get him to test it and report back tomorrow. Fortunately, he also has the USA HD-DVD, so will get him to compare it to that.
Out of those extras, the commentary would have been good!

Tim Burton is not a talkative kind of person. His commentary is no match to, eg. Guillermo Del Toro's commentary on El Labirinto Del Fauno, so i think in this case, lack of extras is not a reason to avoid this or that edition. Main reason is PQ/AQ.

Point taken! I just would not have thought it difficult to include them anyway. Do ANY Optimum realeases have extras? I can't think of any...

Ahh, okay - I didn't realise that - thanks GGX!
it seems that they use French masters to make thir discs, so maybe it is to do with the rights. They same way that when Alliance release in the USA, they only contain the film.

Actually. I think I have been a bit harsh on the quality. The sound track is superb - great dts ma track. I think it's just that there is a lot of picture grain, but is this not a case with all of Tim Burton's non animation? This has a better picture than Big Fish or Scissorhands, for example. The grain just seems to muddy the detail, somehow if you know what I mean? Image shows no sign of being tampered with, though.
If you don't care about having the extras, I say buy it!
Still need to confirm the region, but optimum titles tend to be locked and this one says region b on the sleeve.
It's also a bd-25 if that interests anyone. Mpeg-4 AVC transfer, not the mpeg-2 one that Paramount used in the USA.

Just watched this and enjoyed it very much, P/Q is pretty good i thought (better than the R1 dvd i used to own), the DTS-HD soundtrack is superb, it is disappointing that there aren't any extra's on the disc but i've always liked this film and i'm glad i upgraded over my old dvd.

I live in the U.S, and I bought the Sleepy Hollow blu ray on a deep discount, and I WOULD NOT recommend it. There was far too much grain for my taste, and the colors were not as sharp, nor the picture as detailed. The sound was pretty poor as well.
