Nice, I knew about the film but never watched it. About time, plus Peter Sellers is always worth watching.

FYI, for anyone living in New York, AN OFFICER AND A SPY is getting its US premiere with a two-week run at the Film Forum.

https://filmforum.org/film/an-officer-and-a-spy

They're programming it themselves, it's not being released in the US through a distributor, so this is not a sign of a physical media release in the future.

Six years after its premiere, the French-language film has still never had a home video release anywhere in the world with English subtitles.

The long-OOP Presumed Innocent/Frantic US BD has been reprinted by WB.

Here's hoping they reprinted the corrected version, and not the faulty first pressing.

Atomic stocks it:

Amazon has a page for it, but doesn't seem to stock it yet:

The Palace never got a US or even English release anywhere too, right? I really want to see both. Crazy how he became an arthouse darling again to begin the century, winning an Oscar, getting a standing ovation, and then back into the wilderness again as if no one knew about his past deeds years earlier

The Palace never had a theatrical release in any English-speaking market, same as An Officer and a Spy.

The only BD of The Palace was in Italy. It had optional English subs, but only for the entire movie, not just for the non-English language scenes. That BD quickly went OOP, and no other market has released a BD. It was an Italian-financed film, it was only released theatrically in a couple of other countries.

Criterion will never touch another of his films, I would put money on that.

Unfortunately, they have US rights to that title, so nobody else can do it here.

There's an OOP UK BD that looks nice, which I have.

If it ever gets a UHD, it'll be overseas, I think.

Yeah I got an HD digital copy to hold me over. Shame Criterion are just holding the rights if they don't plan to do anything with them.

I hope this means there will finally be a Blu-Ray with English subtitles eventually.

Weirdly, I see no showings anywhere near Los Angeles.
