Default My expensive Marantz blu ray player is broken after less than a year

yes its true .I forgot the model # off the top of my head but it was the expensive one .
I will have to get it fixed .
After that i'm getting a dennon player
i PAID 1400 for it back then and that was a super price . It listed for 1,999 .
I will get it repaired and give it to a family member and the get the dennon one for 800
I would not recommend this player

See, the (extra) big brands are not worth your money. :P
I find that extremely ridiculous that someone pays that for a player, and it just breaks.
What the heck are you paying for then?
I hope they'll fix it for free, if not send a replacement.

It should still be under warranty, get it repaired....for free, and still replace it if you want to.

Anything and everything is susceptible to breaking down at some point irregardless of price.

Just because something is expensive doesn't mean there won't be a bump in the road. Don't Rolls Royce's break down ??? Don't Expensive homes have issues ???

@ zoraduntov

Is it still under warranty ??? If it is, it's how they treat you that counts !!! You paid more money for a reason right, and just because something failed that's enough to make you get rid of it after it's fixed.................... odd.

Plus hello, Marantz & Denon

Did I say that???...

I just said it's ridiculous to pay so much for a device like this,
plus the manufacturers getting away with it.
It's not like you get like super quality and performance for it, lookit, he's put up with a broken player.
And I used to buy DVD-players, of brands like JVC, of only about 100 Euros or whatever and they stíll work today.
Yes, that's more than half a decade of use for some of them.

I do not believe the boutique manufacturers, which Marantz certainly is, perform a lot of reliability testing on their products. They throw their budget at over-engineering features with top-notch picture and sound quality, and reliability often takes a backseat in my experience. Is it the transport that is broke? They often go bad in these high-end machines because they are often taken from cheaper models. You should get an estimate or see if Marantz will fix it for free.

Yes, that's more than half a decade of use for some of them.

If someone buys this type of unit solely for watching Blu-Rays then they are not really making the most out of what this thing is capable of. That unit is much more than a BDP and should be used as a Universal Player for high quality playback of DVD's, CD's, & BD's...... As for getting "Super quality and performance for it" ??? Are you serious, perhaps you need to look into some of the features ??? Also keep in mind, I "think" this was Marantz's first run of BDP's.

You might not see the value or proper application for high-end players, but that is you........... I personally wouldn't have bought that model because it was Marantz's first gen of players. Now look at their newest flagship model and see what a wicked machine they have.

zoraduntov, do you know if 6th ave. is even an authorized dealer ??? If yes and it is still under warranty then see what's up. I personally don't know and you "might" have bought this player on the "grey market". I don't fault you for wanting to get the best possible price you can, but did you not understand the risk you might be taking ??? Also if you now completely dislike Marantz, why would you then go with a Denon ???

Best of luck...............

If it were me, I would buy an Oppo instead of the Denon.

Saying they are not worth the money is not a fair assestment at all. It would be like me saying that the PS3 isn't worth its money because of the laser failure rate of the initial units. As a PC person, I realized one thing about electronics ... they all break eventually. Sometimes you are blessed with a product that last for years! I have quite a few - most of my stuff is vintage 20+ years old and still going strong. It's my newer technologies that tend to break easier. The truth is - companies don't build things the way they used to. In High-end gear, you do pay for picture quality, audio quality, and build - but that's usually the materials used to build it, the lasers themselves are usually OEM stuff. I hope they fix it for the OP also - but I don't fault him for buying a high end player.

P.S. The OPPO is so good - the new Lexicon BD player is a rebadged Oppo with sturdier case and better materials - but the guts are still an Oppo, and it cost $3000.00 more. I could make the argument that a person that purchases this should have just bought an Oppo, but maybe the look and feel is important to the buyer also. To each his own.

Not only that.. but 20-25 years ago.. they had like 25,000 transistor on a 10cmx2cm long chip.. now you can fit 2Billion of them on 2x2cm.

As stuff get smaller, it tend to break easier. Older component aren't overly complicated. TV from the 1990's was the result of 40 years of developpement. We will be able to say such about computers in about 20 years... LOL

Too funny, 1 Marantz complaint and it's a shoddy over priced product with a "back seat" in durability. But there are literally thousands of complaints of PS3 consoles yellow lighting and they are in some peoples eyes "the best blue ray players ever".

Guess you don't always get what you pay for.

Sorry, OP. I hope it's under warranty and you can get it taken care of. Big bummer.

I find it's very rare when you get what you pay for. I hate when people blurt that out because it's just simply not true.

On a airplane for example just about every passenger paid a different amount for the tickets and most of them arrive at the same destination at the same time.

I wish I could just spend the right amount of money for something and then expect to get my money's worth.

Anyway.... I'm not going to suggest you should have bought a PS3 even if you should have. I expect you can get this fixed for you free or something and I hope that's what happens.

Good Luck,

Brian

Ehm, you obviously don't see the point. Did you miss the part I quoted?
You act like I'm some dumb kid, that's the whole point, don't act like that...
It's NOT about what your suggestions are about the topic, it's the way you treat someone.
I couldn't care less about our differences in opinions about the players or whatever things like that.
It's just that you're all like "You just don't get it, that's you, you don't understand...".
That type of attitude, looking down on someone, that's not insulting?...

But never mind then...

Once again you are reading way too much into it............

I responded to your initial post and somehow you felt insulted ??? You were in no way shape or form insulted. Perhaps you are looking for an argument or like playing the role of a victim. This a public forum open for discussion. If you were hoping that no one would respond to your post, why bother......

In "my initial post" you were not insulted in any manner, and it appears that you would like to spin it into such. Not the case..........

If anything you were being insulting in your first post, and I simply stated: "You might not see the value or proper application for high-end players, but that is you..........." From what I gather, "perhaps" you don't see why someone would pay a premium for a "high-end player". These "high-end players" often need to fill the role of quality playback of just not BD's but CD's & DVD's as well and do so in style. Often times space is at a premium and one player needs to do all these tasks extremely well considering most people who buy these products are critical when it comes to movies and especially music.

Somehow you find it necessary to feel insulted, and I don't get how I could have been nicer. I have no problem if someone opposes my own beliefs, and respect those who do. I am not made of glass so I don't feel insulted when someone disagrees with me. Obviously time to move on before you feel that I am looking down upon you once again .........

I have very expensive equipment .
B&W 800d,s
Krell KCT ..pre amp
Mcintosh dvd player
audioquest cables
It wouldnt be right to have a cheap blu ray player next to all of that high end equipment. I got the Marantz for its sound quality .
Right now Im just going to get it repaired
