using any sony studio bluray...at the menu press the numbers 7-6-6-9 (spells S-O-N-Y) and a calibration test screen will come up. Not the easiest thing to use, but for those that know how, it can help.

lol now I'm worried if I let them come out and do it (I got $100 off my tv to let them come out for free) they could really mess it up maybe I just won't pick up the phone or tell them someone else from there already contacted me

If they screw something up or I don't like it can I just set to factory defaults from the menu? Or is them playing around in the deep service menu out of reach for the factor settings restore?

I just bought a new TV and am fairly new to the world of LED, but I was reading through the posts and thought I'd ask for some help.

The TV I bought is a Sony KDL-46HX800 (3D) and I really don't want to pay $300 for something I would be happy with doing by playing around with the advanced settings. I don't want to mess with any of the 3D settings at this point, I just want to get a great picture in general. The TV has an "Advanced Video Settings" option as well as a "Pro Picture Setup" area, but I have no idea where to begin. I use the TV to watch mainly movies/television shows on bluray and sports.

Does anyone have any recommended settings for getting the best picture from the TV, or know of a website I can go to research how to get a great picture?

Thanks in advance.

I know well trained guys cost way more then the 200 bucks bestbuy charges so I'm just going to tell them I have an appointment and hang up lol... No way I'm letting someone mess with settings like that, if I must have it calibrated I'll pay the almost $1000 bucks for a real professional to do it.

And no, but google is your friend I'm sure the guys at AVS and maybe here in the advanced search have some settings.

Try http://www.tweaktv.com .
Veteran ISF certified calibrators provide settings on this site.
It won't replace a full ISF calibration, but it's a start.

Thanks I'll probably pick up that upcoming disney calibration disk too for now.

My dad agrees not letting someone from BB F*** with a new tv even if it is free.

Cool

Thanks for the tweaktv suggestion. I looked through their list of TVs, but unfortunately they don't have any calibration settings for my model.

Any other websites you know of?

Thanks for looking around. I tried the settings on that website while watching sports and it made everything look really dulled down. I don't know what they were watching when using those settings, but I wasn't a fan.

Right now I have it set to the General setting with a few tweaks for richer color. Let me know if you find anything else.

That's how a properly calibrated TV probably looks( not in vivid mode with the brightness, etc... cranked up )
It may take awhile for your eyes to get used to.
