Default Good Audio System for my set-up?

Any suggestions? I have a Samsung HL-T5687s Slim-Depth 1080p Rear-Projection DLP with my 60gig PS3 for watching my Blu's on. Suggestions and links would greatly be appreciated. Thanks!

What about this one?

Start with an Onkyo TX-SR605. Because you have a PS3, you need to find a receiver with HDMI v1.3. The HDMI v1.3 is the future for all of your codecs and also it is not a "pass through" which is what you need to avoid. If you get a receiver that is "HDMI Pass Through" then the receiver will not decode ANY audio thru HDMI, instead it will only push it onto the tv and will force you to buy a seperate audio connection which would be fiber optic, thus eliminates you from enjoying PCM audio.

If that's not one that has HDMI 1.3, could you provide a link that has a list of them if one is available? Thanks

yes, that is a 1.3 system, and looks to be fairly descent. You will get some posters who say "dont get sony receivers"...but from its technical specs it sounds good on paper.

Me personally for that price would look into the Onkyo 805 or a Pioneer Elite

Agreed. Mostly depends on your budget.

Onkyo 605=$500
Onkyo 805=$1000

*Both receiver do just about the same things. The 805 has a larger power output, upscales a bit better..... but I think you'll be fine with the 605. It will do everything you need it to do.

Pioneer Elites are also very good, except pricey.

Forget the one I listed before. I am looking at this one. What are some good speakers to get along with it, and is it possible to get satellite (wireless) speakers with this receiver? Also, If i were to get a Pioneer one, do they have any set-ups with ones that have satellite (wireless) speakers? Thanks!

If youre looking for high end speakers, then check out some from Klipsch.

There are many brands and great speakers out there, Klipsch is just one of many, but a high quality brand.

If you want "wireless" maybe get something like this:

Rocketfish™ Universal Wireless Rear Speaker Kit

I have never used nor read any reviews, so could not advise if there is any sound degredation or decreased reliability with use of a "wireless" product.

Also, is it really necassary to get a 7.1 system? Aren't most if not all Blu-ray's all in 5.1? What is the advantage of a 7.1 system over a 5.1?

Default M&k

I'm a big fan of Miller and Kreisel speakers after demo-ing several sets at the Magnolia Hi Fi show room in Tacoma, Wa. I'm very happy with my M&K 5.1 surround. Have had for 4 years or so and I'd buy them all over again. I drive them with a Pioneer Elite receiver.

See my above post. What's the difference between 5.1 & 7.1? Is 7.1 necessary?

Yes its very necessary as even some DVDs are 6.1ch, so you're already at a loss. As a matter of fact right now I'm watching "The Condemed" which has a DTS 7.1 ch track on the blu-ray version. You definitely WANT the 7.1 as it is the future and more and more games and movies will be utilizing it.

5.1 is essentially a 180 degree listening experience.

7.1 could be considered 360 degrees. (although it is harder to distinguish sound from directly behind you...so to me it feels more like 330 degree listening experience )
