Just bought this Blu-ray DVD player and can not get it to do a thing. Using a HDMI cable directly to the LCD and when I start the machine all I get is SNOW.
I can't even get to the Easy Setup screen. This is my second BDP-S360 in 2 days. Did get a screen shot that showed a Blu-ray symbol so I think the cable is not the problem. Any help WBA. Thanks. |

The TV is a Phillips 37" LCD. Nothing big, but big enough for the room, and size does not matter

I love my S360 and have not had any trouble with it. However, I thought I was having trouble when I first hooked it up to my LG TV. It actually ended up being the HDMI cable I was using. I switched brands of cable and the flicker problem I was having went away.
Have you tried switching the cables? Does the TV have more than one HDMI port? if so, try another port. Brian |

I do have the player hooked into HDMI2 on the LCD...have not tested it to see if it works ( cable or HDMI slot). The player tried to load a movie once but the front panel display starts to show the amount of time the movie has played....got to about 8 or 9 and starts all over again (back to 0) but all this time nothing but snow. Yes I did try component....took it directly off my existing player, that works perfectly, got to some of the Easy Setup before it shut down. I am going to try hooking the player up to HDMI1. I know it works that is the one my SAT is on. The movie I am doing all this with is a rented movie from BB, but I did try using one of my regular DVDs and the player did not stop or at least the front panel showed it was playing, but it still showed nothing but the SNOW. Like I said I will try a few more things, and maybe with this sites help we will find the problem, but if not another brand is in the cards. I do like the Sony product but ? ? ? ?
Just changed the HDMI cable from my SAT to the DVD player...Still nothing but "The White Out". Like I said snow for about 2-3 seconds then 1 sec. of black and back to the snow....over and over? ? ? ? Last edited by pieied; 09-29-2009 at 11:54 AM. |

Not sure when you purchased your TV or if it will even help but you can check the TV firmware update against what you currently have. The firmware is dated 11/06. I have to believe the TV is the culprit as you say you already tried another S360 with the same results and the component didn't work either.

I took the Sony back and picked up a Samsung......the unit worked perfectly right from the start. I watched about 10 to 20 min. of the movie before I shut it off to reroute the cable. After doing that I started the movie again, and guess what....no picture. I can't tell you the feeling I had at that exact time, but I kept my chin up....sat down with a cold one and thought things out. I tried switching the HDMI cables between the SAT and the DVD...now the DVD worked and the SAT did not.....I did not think a cable would work and just stop working. Long story short....took the new cable back....the one I bought at the start of this project and exchanged it for a different brand. After reading the "do right manual" I made sure it was a 1.3a Cat2....Cat2 being the key word.
Everything is good now. Thinking of going back to the Sony....Bottom line "cables do make a difference" ....Still don't know why a cable will work intermittently....BUT THEY DO. After getting all the equipment back in place ..."the wife's room" ... we sat down a watched a Blu-ray movie and I must say it was all worth it. Thanks for all the help from this site...It kept me thinking and trying until it worked Last edited by pieied; 09-30-2009 at 10:19 AM. |

just bought a sony s360 and it doesn't work on hdmi. i have a sony 55" grand wega and when i use the hdmi output from my cable box i get a picture and everything works good. when i installed the blu ray player i used the same cable i was using off of the cable box...the blu ray symbol will show up on the tv and after that, nothing the tv stay dark and will flicker every once in a while. the hdmi light on the player isn't lit and can't get to the setup menu while on hdmi port. everything works fine if i use the component cables: watch movies and can get into setup but can't select hdmi option...it's grayed out. Tried an hdmi cable off of my other tv and same thing, went out and bought a more expensive cable and same thing...nothing. i tried my other tv sony 42" grand wega and same thing happens. exchanged it for another s360 and having the same problem...and suggestions? the new cable i bought was AUVIO and was $50 for 6' and specificly lists blu ray
Thanks for any answers you might have |

Not sure what the maximum resolution your TV's support but assuming they're not 1080p I would hook it back up via component to access the setup menu and then change the output video format for HDMI from auto to whatever maximum they do support and then hook it back up via HDMI.

Weird. Not sure if either of these would do it but did you try turning off Control for HDMI in the system settings and/or turning off BD Rom 1080p/24 setting in the video settings? It doesn't seem likely it would be one of these but from a trouble shooting stand point might as well get them out of the way.

just throwing this out there, but is it used? like rent-a-center type deal or such? i had a friend who had a similar problem with his ps3 because it was plugged into a 1080p tv first and auto set to that resolution, then wouldn't work at all on his 720p/1080i when he got home and tried on his, so he had to take it back to our other friends house, change the setting to the proper resolution, then all worked fine?
just a thought |

Got me stumped. I'm guessing you also checked if there are firmware updates available for your TV's. I've seen a few TV's that require updates for HDMI compatibility issues. I didn't know your model numbers so I couldn't check that or review their manuals. I don't have a Sony TV but from what I read there may also be a Control for HDMI setting on the TV as well that you should disable. I have to believe it's a TV setting and I'm guessing since both of your TV's are Grand Wega's at 1080i that you bought them around the same time and are from the same model family (meaning same model but different screen size) which would account for them behaving identically. Of course this is just guessing on my part.
Other than the fact that it should work and the convenience of 1 cable for both audio and video it's not really a show stopper in your circumstance at the current time. Your not going to get any better video as component supports 1080i. Your going direct to your TV from the player, or at least it appears that way, so you must be relying on your TV speakers for audio making the hd audio codecs a moot point so you can just as well use an optical cable or whatever port you have available. You could try another brand of player to see if the same thing happens if it's important to you. I'm partial to Sony also, strayed to Samsuck last time around which will never happen again. The Blu-ray player was the first thing to replace. I'll replace the TV's with Sony also, even though they haven't actually given any issues yet, when it comes time. |

model #'s
kdf-42we655 kdf-55wf655 Couldn't find a setting on the TV for Control for HDMI but I did find it on the blu-ray player and disabled it still nothing. I was hoping to get a home theater system a little later on and that's my main concern for wanting the HDMI. From what I understand is that the player is suppose to play down to the 1080i on the HDMI and seems to work fine on my cable box...do you think it's possibe that it'll only play 1080p on the HDMI output and will have to use the componentfor 1080i...just throwing it out there? thanks for all your help |
