Since getting my HDTV I can't watch regular TV (COX CABLE). I was excited and got the HD DVR and expected fireworks.
Instead, I get about 15 channels of HD and 200 of crap. I'm glad the networks are in HD (although they seem to push non-HD crap often). But geez, anyone else having trouble watching plain TV? And I'm really not interested in watching sports too much anymore, so that cancels out 25% of the programming at least. ![]() If not for the Discovery channel, PBS HD and a couple shows on the main networks (LOST, Prison Break, etc) I'd cancel TV completely and just watch BLUS and upscaled SDs. On the plus side, I'm watching more nature shows and documentaries (via PBS HD). I actually watched Sunrise Earth this morning. |

Ya, I know how you feel. Standard Def makes it difficult and I end up watching sports on ESPN HD just for the sake that it is HD. I would love to get WGN, The History Channel and The Military Channel on HD. Combine that with what I already have, and I doubt I would ever watch Standard Def again.

It doesn't look too good, but I still watch TV. Sad thing is I may watch only about 1% (if that) of what's on.

i think it partly depends on your TV too. mine does a good job cleaning up the SD coax signal, not upscaling or anything but it is definately an easier image to watch than some of my friends LCD TV's where you can practically count the scanlines from the 480i coax signal, hurts the eyes a bit.

Both plasma and LCD look like Hell on Standard broadcast as well as 480p DVD... VHS is totally unwatchable, Laserdisc aint much better. Most so-called 'HD' programming is just up-converted standard broadcast. The panels are made for HD only. They make no allaowances for standard viewing. You'd need a processor that makes the standard stuff at least watchable. To keep prices down on flat panels, onboard processing is kept to a minimum. Cheaper to watch Standard stuff on a tube.

I mainly still use SDTV, as 720p mode, I got problem with sync-on-green. The pictures appears green, but very sharp PQ. this will hopefully change in the next couple of week when I ordered a special tool to remove sync-on-green

We can't go back either. The day we got our 52" XBR2 we stopped watching SD whenever possible. Local news, for instance. I had to get on the roof to put up a long range UHF antenna. I can't resist football when it's on. The NFL is the man's soap opera.

I feel your pain... but dump cable and get sat, the choices in HD ar better...
They say that DirecTV will have so many more HD chanels here shortly, but right now Dish is ahead, and for what its worth, Dish has unlocked the USB port so you can use unlimited amounts of external storage for archiving HD content on external USB drives. |

Our local PBS-HD station runs the same network HDTV promo-film in the wee hours every morning (they used to run it every morning for two or three years, before they got more programming), where they compare existing "invisible" HDTV broadcast saturation to Walt Disney and Bonanza selling color-TV sets in the 60's.
And as one who's old enough to remember the family getting their first color set (in the 70's, we were cheap late-adopters), and the first time we could watch Wizard of Oz the "proper" way, that comparison is so on-the-mark as to be scary. ![]() No, strike that: I still watch B/W TV shows. |

Yes, my channels sucks lemon juice too! However after doing a second scan, I'm not receiving about 45 HD Channels not all are top of the line some are 720p others are 1080i a few shows up as 480i all in all, the major networks are all I really care about at this time...out side of "24","Heroes", "SNF" and "MNF" what else is there to watch?
