filmed in like 28 countries, basically shows the impact of civilization on the planet. Expertly filmed, will make your jaw drop. I highly recommend it. If you want to show off you tv and the blu-ray format this is the disc for you.

There is no dialogue at all just images of nature and people, and the way different cultures live. If you read the review it explains in a little better

Having never seen Baraka I will give you my synopsis of the content as I have grown to understand it from reading various sources.
It is sort of an experimental film made by a guy (or was it two guys) who had some success with a film of this sort before. The earlier effort had a very political slant that led to it ultimately not being widely accepted. Other than that it was considered a success in the art of filmmaking. Barak however removes the political ideology and runs with a similar theme/idea. The film makers traveled to several different countries, several different continents, and spanned a wide range of time just filming whatever was happeneing while they were there. Soft of just capturing life happening before our eyes. There is no dialogue or narration that I am aware of and from what I gather there isn't really even a story being told. It is just life happening on film. Some of the stuff includes (someone please correct me if I am wrong) religious ceremonies, nature shots, animals, shots of busy streets, ect. All of this was filmed using time lapse cameras at a very high resolution. The film makers dicided they had enough footage and compiled, edited, and put together the film. I have seriously considered just blind buying this because that idea seems absolutely fascinating to me and probably is one of those things that you should see. I almost feel that I would regret NOT getting it just for the experince of watching it at least one time. ![]() Note: All of this information may be incorrect. Like I said I have never seen Baraka, this is just stuff I have heard about it. |

Its a movie that shows the similarity of different civilizations, even if they live across the world from each other. They show this only though video footage, its all live action footage. Don't get confused when people say "images", they don't mean photos, its all actual video footage.
For instance, it shows a tribe doing their dances and rituals and cuts to an entirely different tribe doing their own thing and you realize how similar they are, even if they live worlds apart. Or they show different religious groups performing their religious rituals, and you notice the similarities between them. Its a great film, you should get it. Hope this answered your question. ![]() |

No, it's not a "TV demo". I really enjoyed it, though the actual blu-ray restoration was overhyped.
Some people didn't appreciate the segment with the naked tribal kids, so keep that in mind if you're the kind to be offended by national geographic. |

It is a spiritual journey here on Earth.
No conventional plot, but everyone seems to walk away with their own perceptions. I often watch it for relaxation, almost meditative. Last edited by FindYourWay; 10-10-2009 at 12:33 AM. |

Baraka is very spiritual in nature, and can really draw the viewer in. For not having a traditional plot, it can still easily keep your attention for an hour and a half. You won't believe your eyes, right from the opening scene showing the incredible detail of the snowy mountain peaks.
Baraka has absolutely stunning PQ - it will really show your what your display is capable of. AQ is simply gorgeous. Completely pristine and crystal clear - definitely listen to the DTS-HD Master Audio in all its lossless glory. It's a 100% reference-quality disc. |

I love Baraka.
But, it's not for everyone. It's an art-house film. It is not a documentary. Often, you won't really know what you are looking at (other times, it's pretty obvious). It can move very slowly. Some images can be disturbing (concerntration camps, animal (chicken) processing plants, some nudity). There is very much a political slant to it (basically showing how Western society is flawed, and that more primative cultures may have a much better rapore with nature and with each other). It tries to build an emotional response by showing many seemingless unrelated images which, over time, develops a relevence to one another. Many positive reviews by those who enjoy this type of film. Many negative reviews by those thinking they are getting another "Planet Earth". It is NOT a documentary. The PQ/AQ is the best on Blu. Best reference disc in the library. I absolutely love this film... |
