Sony is supposed to be the torch-bearer of Blu-ray, yet they have really dropped the ball in my opinion. Now we're hearing early December for release of their player. Pioneer maybe after January sometime. How about Sharp, LG, and Philips? No announcements, no explanations.
Originally the launch was supposed be this past summer. I was planning to buy the BDP-S1 in early August . . . September . . . then October . . . November . . . now December! Right now their format launch and PR have scored a big fat "F". I wonder if they realize that the early adopters' perception of them or Blu-ray is in the toilet right now? I'd be interested in hearing others' opinions on this and especially if anyone has any inside information as to "WHY". Here are my theories:
That last item is only conjecture. I really doubt there is any show-stopper at this point. BD-50 is successful, all studios (including SONY) have produced excellent quality discs using all the codecs. New features like BD-Java and HD audio formats should be hashed out at this point. If BD was "Sonly only" thing I wouldn't even think about it. And based on past experience with misinformation and hype surrounding PS2 and PS3 I never trust their announcements and promices.
Overall, IMHO it is Sony's fault and not Pioneer's, though I might be wrong. |

All of your points are true, except 6.
We have seen Blu-Ray at its best. Can you provide link on where you have seen that BDP-S1 will be delayed till December? |

Wow, you need to seriously calm down. You act like that Sony player is the only game in town. What about the Elite? What about the solid Panny player that you can buy right now? What about the fixed Samsung at a reduced price? Hell, what about a PS3? These are the kinds of needless and emotional overreactions that I see around that are very dismaying. Have you been spending too much time reading AVS FUD or something? ![]() Calm down! I'll tell you: If you're this easily angered, I can't imagine what you would do if you got one of those buggy "laptop masquerading as a home theater product" HD-DVD players in your house. ![]() I wouldn't recommend it. ![]() Last edited by nyg; 10-21-2006 at 04:05 PM. |

But I didn't order mine directly from Sony I did the amazon deal to get the discount so I wonder how many they are getting/how many people I have to fight over with the limited supply. If I ever order something like this again online I don't think I'll do it online amazon.com has never had a release date for the bdp-s1. So I wonder if they are way down on the todem pole or what. I mean I might as well wait for the second round of players if this is the pace. As far as the pioneer I can't find anywhere that has it in stock or pre-order.

Given that Vick had actually preordered the Sony BD player from Amazon (presumably long ago) I don't blame him one bit for being pissed! I know I would be! (but this isn't to say that I endorse his use of profanity here either).
