Default Weird thumping with sub

Recently my sub has had like a weird knocking sound, the level of bass when it happens sounds almost like someone is walking on the floor above me but they are not, i am pretty sure it even happens when their is no signal or the sound is muted. It is sporadic and if i unplug it, it seems to stop at least for a while.

Any ideas, wasn't sure if this was some kind of feedback or something. Its very faint when i am watching or listening to something so i have let it go for a while, but recently it has been driving me nuts.

Paradigm ultra cube 12
Integra - dtr 6.8
hooked up with the sub out

There is a little rat sitting in your subwoofer with a hammer.

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

First, disconnect the wires one by one to see if the problem is from the receiver and the cable or the subwoofer. Make sure you use shielded RG6 sub cable.

Open the subwoofer and see if you can see a possible problem. If I have to take a wild guess, I would say it is the subwoofer's amplifier. If you have an older receiver or amplifier, connect it to the driver of the subwoofer and check if it still makes the noise.

If the subwoofer is under warranty, check with the manufacturer. If you have to pay for an amplifier, it will cost you between $100 to $300 from other sources. A driver will cost you between $50 to $150.

Appreciated, i have some time today so i'll take a look and see what i come across, its just so random and comes and goes that i have put it off, but the occasional heartbeat like sound finally had me wanting to see what the deal was. Anyways i am sure i will be back for options or more info once i check that out.

Thanks again
