Default Black Hawk Down Extended? Is it happening?

Hi Gang,

I'm just about to pull the trigger on the theatrical release.
Anyone know if the studios intend to release the extended cut that was released on DVD?

Thanks!

I've been holding out as well. I'm also waiting for a loaded set. They need to bring everything over from the 3 disk deluxe DVD.

The only times in the near future I could foresee this coming out are alongside either the theatrical release or BR/DVD release of Scott's Robin Hood.

Yeah, that's probably the soonest it will happen. Robin Hood won't hit BD for probably another year, so for ten bucks might as well just get it now.

I will probably eventually just pick up the one that is already out and then pick up the director's cut later on.

Wait one more year. Why waste the extra money? Don't provide the studio with money until they get a release right.

It's unlikely the Frontline will be included again from the 3disc

That might work for DVD but with blu ray it might be counter productive. If no one buys studios might assume there isn't an audience for the title.

I'm not sure I'm buying into the "will likely be released with Robin Hood" argument. Using that reasoning, we could have said the same when Gladiator was released. Why not also presume that "1492: Conquest Of Paradise" would be released too? There doesn't appear to be any substantiation for those assumptions, though I would love for them to be true.

Also, BHD was released 3 years ago. I would imagine the outcry for the extended would have been strongest around the time of the release. It's probably far less urgent now.

Hmmm... Can anyone think of other extended versions of films that have yet to have been released (that may or may not be in the pipeline)?

I don't think any of us meant that the extended version would be or would likely be released along side Robin Hood. We were saying that that would probably be the earliest we could see it. I don't think it we'll see it for a few years (2+). Might as well just spend $10 on current release because you're missing out.

I'm puzzled by this reference to an extended cut. I have both the 3-disc Region 1 DVD set and the Blu-ray, and both have identical versions with a running time of 144 minutes.

I was unaware of any other cut of the film. Is the 144-minute version regarded as an extended cut?

Google "Black Hawk Down Extended" and see what pops up.
From what I gathered, the extra 8 minutes of footage are placed in the beginning and end of the film and are more character building scenes.

If they'd put a 7.1 DTS track on any extended release I'd be all over that.

Considering it's a Sony cash-in and not sanctioned by Ridley Scott himself, I wouldn't bother waiting.

Makes sense to me.

I haven't watched the BD in a while, but I seem to recall the transfer looking a bit on the digital side. This was, after all, once of the first BD releases so I wonder if a new one could be in store at some point. There is an overseas release I believe - I wonder how the U.S. version compares in terms of PQ?

I had the extended cut on DVD. If there was a useless extended cut, this would be it. This is probably one movie that didn't need a ex. cut. The ex. bits don't really add much, but rather drag the movie out. It literally slows the pace down. The same thing I have heard people say about Gladiator.

Fantastic Four - Extended Cut for one. Much better film than the TC, IMO. Did for the TC what Dare Devil - Director's Cut did for its TC.
