Default Please Help!!!

I have an Onkyo TX-SR607 and it has worked perfectly for about 3 months now. But just yesterday I was watching a movie and all of a sudden there was a loud pop and the audio completely cut out and the standby light on the receiver started flashing. I cut the power to the system and let it sit for a while and powered it up and everything was fine....but now it just happened again. I am using in ceiling speakers as my surrounds and it sounds like the pop comes from the right surround when this happens. I am fairly new to the audio scene and certainly not an expert. Can any of you Audio Gurus out there suggest what the problem might be and how to fix it? Thanks in advance!

If you are still using that TV stand, it could be that there is not enough space for the receiver to expell the heat. Onkyos have a tendency to run hot so its best to give them some space to allow the heat to disipate.

It sounds as if its overheating and then shutting down and going into protect mode.

I agree with callas01, If you have slack in your cabling, I would pull the receiver out in front of the stand temporarily to see if the problem goes away.

The first time it happened was the only time it had been on all day and it hadn't been on for maybe 15 minutes. Could it really overheat that fast? And why has it worked fine for 3 months?

It also didn't feel hot at all when it happened.

The only other thing you can look at would be the wire that run to your speakers, see it everything is connected properly.
