Default need to ask cause i dont know, please help

hi all, i am buying a large speaker package from a guy and was wondering if i need an amp or not? for one i have never had an amp or never hooked one up before. couple of guys asked my about my speaker package and said i may need an amp. can i ask why and what would an amp do. i thought it was for more power, but would like more logic behind it. just want to understand it i guess.

i have an onkyo 606 now with my CSW sat setup running through it.

i have MC300 all up front and 2 S300 for rear channels and a P1000 sub (1000wts) in the front right corner.

what i am getting is in this thread i started in the speaker forum below:

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=119313

any help would be appreciated and also if i do need an amp which ones are good and within a lower budget.

along the same lines is i saw this receiver at BB the other day, it was a demo model i believe and thought it sounds like a great deal, but is it? how does this receiver rank against my onkyo i have now? Ima pretty sure this is the model. it had a tag saying it was regular $1199, on clearance for $599

http://www.usa.denon.com/ProductDetails/4484.asp#

any thoughts, would this handle my first question above in the first post? thanks

They are all 8 ohm speakers, your 606 will do fine with them....no amp needed (however, this is not really an option for you anyway, as you would need a "pre-out" on your current receiver, and the 606 does not have one) so you would need a new receiver or pre/pro to get more power to the speakers if you needed to if they were 6 or 4 ohm speakers. Luckily, again, these are 8 ohm speakers, so the 606 can get the job done. Nice find by the way.

Here is a link to what was the actual MSRP of everything you just found:

http://www.hometheatersound.com/equi...wton_mc300.htm

Great steal indeed!

I'm not an expert, but Denon makes really good receivers, and that looks like a good deal to me.I would think it would push those speakers fine, but you could always add an amp later,if need be.

The Denon for $599 is a pretty solid deal, only seen it cheaper than that price once. Anyways, the Denon power ratings are generally spot on, so you can try powering your speakers with just the Denon. Waiting on the amp if funds are a little tight never hurts. Congrats on the new speakers by the way.

I don't have the time to check at the moment, but if they are all 8 ohm, you are fine. Sorry I didn't read the previous post correctly....perhaps I should just type and not type and hold a 7 month old at the same time. To me, that is an even bigger steal......amazing find!

Thumbs up New speakers

Your Onkyo will do just fine. But, if you have the hots for a new receiver, the Denon is a good deal. Otherwise, stick with the Onkyo and buy some new Blu-Rays !

Just for your information ! Your Onkyo 606 does not have Pre-outs . In order to hook up an external Amp your receiver has to have Pre-outs .

thanks, i finally found some specs on the whole speaker setup and it looks like the onkyo 606 will be fine. i remembered that denon did not have its remotes or microphone included. so i think i will hold off unless its still pn the clearance table.

Default denon 2908

hey, i went to BB today and they still have a denon 2908ci on clearance. it is a floor model and does not have the remotes, calibration mic or manual with it. they are asking $599 for it and it retails for $1199. was thinking about making an offer for it????

is there a good place to buy the items it does not come with??

is it worth buying it?? i was thinking if it was used alot and out through alot ?? any thoughts??

their website.
Calibration Mic (overpriced I think)
http://www.usa.denon.com/ProductDetails/3078.asp

you can download the manual from their site

you can get a harmony universal remote from BB, or ask BB to give you a discount on the remote you have to buy also.

went to BB again today and asked a magnolia person about the denon 2809 receiver on clearance. she said it is missing everything and that is why it is half price at $599. was thinking of making an offer, but the vibe i got is that it is the lowest it will be. should I or should i not
