How much do you think I could sell a non-working 60 GB PS3 for?
It was reflowed once, and only worked for about a week. I initially put it on Craig's List for 50 bucks, and had about 10 people want to buy it immediately. Made me think, I'm selling too cheaply. Plus I need to try to reflow it again so I can remove the account information on it. Hey, If I removed the HD from the 60 GB model and put it in my PS3 slim would that remove the information? or do I have to deactivate that particular model ID? |

i see.
well, it's not on there, so i'm bolluxed for that. my main paranoia is that if I DID sell it, what about my personal account information on there, like my credit card stuff. if someone fixed it, they could just buy games willy nilly and not think twice about it, that or tv shows or rent movies. |

youre probably going to run into some problems if you call sony to have them deactivate it. Last time I called they said they could only deactivate systems that have been sent to them for repair. Which is a bunch of bull because they could do it to any system. Can you pull the hard drive out and put it into an enclosure, then reformat it with a computer, then put it back into the broken system? Then you can sell it with peace of mind.

I would reflow it for a second time, Backup your HDD to an external HDD (then transfer to Slim), Then sell the PS3 as is and it would be working. I personally have reflowed my 60gb for the second time. The first reflow lasted about a month. When I did the second reflow I heated up the CPU and GPU a little longer (~2min total heating with circular/figure8 pattern). I am still going and it has been about 2mos since the last repair.

that is sketchy for reflowing the ps3 again and selling it for a high price knowing that the person you sold it to would have to be stuck with it, I say fix it and get another ps3 and only use this one as a bluray player or something.
What if you bought a ps3 on ebay on craigslist that did the same thing without you noticing or the people let you know and brake down 2-3 months later?i'd be pissed. |

But I agree, I'd pay for the fixing, then format the drive... then sell it at a higher price, BUT you need to make sure you tell the buyer that it has been reflowed twice. |

well yeah, I never said I wouldn't fully disclose it. I described in my ad the first time that it had been reflowed and broke down again, that it was non-working. I'm not looking to pass and receive bad karma. but still, if it's a working model, then it should get more money I'm thinking. I suppose I'll ask around and see if anyone I know has a heat gun that I can borrow. The last time this happened, I just took the heat gun back to the store the day after I used it for fixing it. I have no use for such things. |
