Default Wes Craven's Scream on Blu-ray

So I received Scream today and was quite surprised. It was $23.99 on Amazon when I pre-ordered and I did not even expect it to ship. I just thought it was an error on their part but its now here in my hands. I guess it is an import but it was shipped from CA. The case is thicker and it is distributed by Icon. The picture quality is good. There is no DNR but you can tell it looks dated and more effort could have been put in I think. The DTS-HD track is good but severely lacks bass. Overall, if I would have known I would have just waited for the US releases of all three.

There has been several threads on this. It's an Australian import that Best Buy and Amazon are selling.

Oh thanks. Well like I said, I didnt know it was going to be an import. I would have just waited. I dont like the thicker case and the huge rating logo on the cover, side, and back of the case.

I ordered mine at the 23.99 price, but it hasn't shipped yet. Says I can expect it mid-December. Hopefully they get more in soon.

Don't know if this is true but could you confirm if its is 1080i or 1080p as there has been speculation that this is 1080i.

This is my first post on this forum, and I apologise in advance that it unfortunately is bad news that I have to report. I recieved my copy of the Australian Scream Blu ray today and it's the theatrical cut of the movie only!

The transfer itself is great, 1080p/24 anamorphic and DTS-MA 16 Bit @ 48KHz audio. The picture itself is stunning and has just the right amount of residual film grain to make it a great transfer of the theatrical cut of Scream. There is no immediately visible print damage, aliasing or edge enhancement either. IF this had been the director's cut, it would have been a perfect release despite being a barebones version. Far superior to any previous transfer including the recent German releases.

To verify this fact, i have done a frame by frame comparison with the Unrated NTSC Laserdisc (That thankfully I still own), and NONE of the unrated footage appears in the Blu ray version, I repeat, NONE of the unrated footage appears in this version of the movie! No guts from steve, no slow approach to Casey hanging from the tree, no closeup or angle change for Tatum's garage door head crush, no extension for the Kenny throat slashing, and no additional knife slashes or blood pool during the climax of the movie. The diffrence in running times between the two versions including the closing credits is 20 seconds. Yes, both versions run at 111 minutes, but there is a distinct 20 second difference in the total overall running time of the film.

Australian Dendy Blu ray release total running time: 1:51:00 Precisely = 111 Mins (time on cover incorrectly states 105 Mins)

Dimension US Uncut DTS Laserdisc total running time: 1:51:20 Precisely = 111 Mins (time on cover 111 Mins)

Kinowelt Uncut German single DVD (not the one from the trilogy box) total running time: 1:51:22 precisely, but counter continues to run for two seconds of black screen after the closing credits adding the difference. = 111 Mins (Time on cover incorrectly states 107 mins)

If anyone has any questions at all regarding this Blu ray release of Scream, or any other version back to VHS and LD, please feel free to ask. There's only about 3 dvd releases that i don't own, and some people complain about 'double dipping',lol...

Sorry if this seemed long winded, but there seems to be many conflicting reports regarding this title and i wanted to provide you all with as much informed information as possible before you either choose to purchase or not, $30 is $30 right?

Hi bootsy,

Purchased it from Big W online in Australia, but it is freely available from any Aussie online retailer. I would suggest either Ezydvd, JB Hi Fi or Big W if you plan on purchasing this title. It is region ABC playable though, so i guess it really does not matter where you purchase from.

speaking of craven, half way through watching The Last House On The Left, the forest r*pe scene was more intense than Hills Have Eyes 2. anyway, then i check yahoo movie reviews, users bash the r*pe scene in that film, but sorta gave it thumbs up for the reality in Left?

What video codec is used on the Blu-ray? Is the disc a BD-50 or a BD-25? And finally, what are the bitrates like on the video? Thanks in advance for any information you can provide.

Hi Clark Kent...

lol, never pictured myself typing that...

Anyways, to answer your questions it is a BD-25 disc with absolutely NO extras at all, just the movie and soundtrack, plus the usual menu and scene selection... It is a 1080p/24 AVC encode with a bitrate floating between 25 and 30mbps

Hope this helps...

Hi D head,

Pictures of the cover can be found on blu-ray.com, just type Scream in the seach box from the home page and you should have two choices, the German Trilogy box or the Aussie single disc release. You may need to change your filtering options to include Australian releases if you have it set to filter certain Countries/Regions... If you need a high res rear cover shot, PM me and I will email one to you, I have not been able to find a shot of the rear cover online as yet...
