Why is it that XBR8s are more expensive then the new XBR10s?

Without a doubt, Sony took a step back when it came to making the XBR9 (in the face of the diminished economy, no doubt in part), and also with the XBR10.
The XBR8 utilizes full-array LED backlighting, which was a real breakthrough in the manner by which LCD flat-panel TVs produce a picture. The XBR9 reverted back to CCFL (Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp) backlighting, and so lost some of the technological picture quality advantages of the XBR8 (local dimming for improved black levels in mixed-brightness imagery, for example). The XBR10 utilizes "edge-lit" LED backlighting, where the illumination comes from LEDs along the outer perimeter of the LCD panel, and not the full panel area like the XBR8. Although more efficient than CCFL backlighting, edge-lit does not offer the more even backlighting of full-array LED backlighting. It stands to say that the XBR8 is still Sony's finest TV offering. |

Interesting, thanks for the info.
So what out there now beats the Sony XBR8 within the same price range? And where can I find FACTS and Reviews on these displays, not just peoples opinion. Do retailers play with display options in the stores to make one brand/model to look inferior to another if they are trying to push some of their inventory out? How do I know when I walk into Best Buy if that is the best the TV can do, and If they are even using a good Blu - Ray player with HDMI etc... ![]() Last edited by drvasek; 11-15-2009 at 09:04 PM. Without a doubt a Pioneer Kuro plasma beats any tv on the market including Sony. The 50 inch 111fd and 60 inch 115 fd are the most highly rated tvs in the world. Pioneer stopes making them this year due to the economy, but if you can get one you will be amazed and have the absolute best. Here a review http://reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-t...-33002556.html google pioneer kuro 111 fd or 111 fd and you will see they are rated the absolute best and have the blackest blacks of any tv. Good luck on your quest for a new tv. Last edited by Porfie; 11-16-2009 at 06:55 AM. |

Always buy from an authorized dealer, Vanns are. You'd have to do unspeakable things to get burn-in and the colours can be calibrated to ISF-standards. |
