I don't know much about Arrow Films - do they have a good track record as far as technical quality is concerned?

If they do, then this should be a very welcome, if unexpected, addition to the BD catalogue.

this is truly one of the greatest films i have ever seen ...
and the bad news is only amazon.co.uk has the listing still available ,,, play and hmv have dropped it .... delayed ???

it seems that when a film dissapears it comes back as hmv exclusive give it a few weeks i would say it will end up being released about april....

good news i just received a email from them :

Hi Jon

The release date of this title on DVD and blu-ray have been put back to April so this is probably why pre-orders have been taken off the website.

Hmm. I only own one film from Arrow: Nuovo Cinema Paradiso. Although the transfer is decent I would say that technically it is one of the worst blu-rays I own. One glarring example is that the subtitles are hard-coded! Another curiosity is that it contains one trailer which is the original trailer for the directors cut, but the BD only contains the original European theatrical cut.

All in all. I would be wary about buying anything from Arrow films before I see a review from a reliable source.

Looks like it's now scheduled for 28 February 2011.

Excellent. The Arrow titles have been region free so I should be able to import this to the U.S.

I emailed Arrow querying this release and they said:

"We are indeed releasing BICYCLE THIEVES on Blu-ray but the date is not yet confirmed, once we make a press release a date will be decided on, though I can say this is likely to be in March. Please keep checking our website for the latest details as this is the first place where up to date information will be available."

They are working on them still. I believe they are actually filming content for extras as we speak.

hard to say whether this will indeed be region free since Criterion has rights in the US and might want to force Arrow to lock it.
I'm kind of surprised Criterion hasn't issued the bd of this yet.

Hmm, the BVA are saying that it's on for the 28th but I would have imagined that places other than play would have a pre-order up.
