I use DVD Profiler and am quite pleased with it.

Online, I use both Blu-ray.com and blu-raystats.com, however, neither online keeps track of SD DVD's. .

I like DVD Profiler better because you can add some ones that are not listed. For example, I have a B&W Demo DVD that I have added. Also, you can print off your collection and keep it in a binder if you want. This makes it easier than going to a shelf sometimes, especially when you have guests over.

I'm another DVD Profiler user and I've been using it for years. It is a user built program, so you can update profiles and create new ones, just as long as you follow their rules. There is a $30 charge for the program, but once you pay that, you get free updates for life. You can read more at www.invelos.com.

Btw, I am playing around with a freeware program called EMDB DVD Organizer.

You took the words out of my mouth.

Is there something these programs offer, that's better than looking at the physical disks?

Am I missing something?

Well, with DVD profiler, you can add what you paid for it, add your own ratings, etc. I keep a copy of the db in a safe place as well as pictures of my collection for insurance reasons.

I remember paying something like $10 for DVD Profiler back when they just released 2.x. Probably been using it for 4 years if I had to take a guess.

Plus you get your own online page.

For stat junkies, some programs offer some cool stat tracking features that would be a lot harder to figure out manually.

Those are just a few of a bunch of different graphs (they also have some for directors, actors, studios, etc). I cut off some of the graphs so they'd look better here, but they actually include every movie (so some of them, like the actor one, require a bit of scrolling to see it all).

For those of us with massive media collections that have been building for years, or decades, it's beneficial to have a way to track and catalog everything. (When I add up all my books, Blu-rays, DVDs, CDs, iTunes music, and video games they number over 5,000--mostly books and CDs.)

This is good, not just for personal benefit and convenience, but also for insurance purposes. (For example, I have a number of first edition books that are, collectively, worth tens of thousands of dollars.)

For Blu-rays, I've been using a Mac program called DVDpedia, but I got a free copy of Delicious Library 2 in this summer's MacHeist so I am in the process of switching to that because DL2 also catalogs music (CDs and iTunes), books and video games.

For collections that pre-date these types of apps, I have most of my book collection in an Excel spreadsheet.

I also use Excel to catalog all of my XBLA and PSN games and add-on content, as well as what PS3 (we have 2) they are installed on.

I use Delicious Library and DVDpedia. The pictures in that post are from DVDpedia.

Like Sylin, I got Delicious Library in the Mac Heist thing from a few months ago, but unlike him, I'm actually switching over to DVDpedia, because I like the charts. The regular interface for Delicious looks better though (and creates a fake shelf looking image, which you can easily export to post online).

Delicious lets you scan barcodes, if you have a camera hooked up to your computer (or a built-in one). I'm not sure if DVDpedia has a similar feature, but it let me import my Delicious library, so I never had to check.

Delicious Library does indeed look cool. I have been using it for a couple of years, I think. We're now on Delicious Library 2, but a recent update to DL2 has stopped me being able to open the program. It's been about a month since I have been able to use it, and I've been in touch with them, but they've yet to solve the problem.

Regrettably, I've started looking at alternatives, although I would rather just be able to use the program again!

In answer to the fellow who asked why don't you just look at your shelves, some of us have storage issues. My bookshelves are loaded two rows deep with movies to maximize storage space. So physically browsing them is a pain in the ass. This is why I've come to rely on DL2.

That's one way.... but there have been times when I am out shopping and I can't remember which piece of the trilogy I am missing.... so I whip out my phone and go to blu-raystats.com and have a look.
