Default Best LCD for gaming?

I'm looking for an LCD with excellent PQ, and little to no input lag.

This is going to be used for 80% gaming, 20% Blu-ray.

ummm... there all gonna be the same . for the most part... Most are at minimum 4 ms response time.. My friends samsung ln46a550 was like $1,100 when he got it last yr, and it plays games just fine... My 750 might look better but as far as response time i didnt notice much.. Games are like BR , theres really no need for the 120 hz processing to be on, since the disc is already compressed at the highest quality

I agree with Langn08...Black Friday will be the day for you to cash in on an LCD. Sammy's are very nice. You might also be able to find a decent Sony LCD as well.

Sigh.. lol

The reason I'm asking is because my friend has an Old Sammy 1080p 40" LCD, and I was playing on it yesterday, and the input lag was bad.

you will defintely get input lag on some tvs more than others... i had a 46 inch 640 (samsung)... bad lag... traded it in for the b750... bad lag (playin uncharted and cod). ive nearly given up on the search for a tv because i want no input lag and yet great blu ray performance; which does not seem to exist?! From what i've learned... you will increase your chances of input lag if you are running at 1080p when the native res. of the game is 720p; thats why input lag is not as much an issue on small tvs i assume? I've read that the sony's have great response (dealing with input lag, not just the response time number - remember I returned the b750 which had a response time of 2ms).

LCD + little to no online lag = does not compute

Any LCD you get will suffer in this area, however i agree some set are worse than others. response time on LCD is just to slow...period. If you are looking for a display specifically for gaming i suggest plasma or DLP.....or better yet CRT

The lcd in my sig has NO LAG what so ever. I usually put it on game mode.

I (when I used to play games) play COD, Halo 3, NBA live, Madden, ect ect.

I play on game mode in my Sony xbr9 with no lag whatsoever. No problems in Rock Band or DiRT 2 which require to be lag free. Otherwise, you are not going to hit 100% in Expert mode. This is on a PS3 by the way.

In that price range, I heard the Sony V series are pretty good.

Good luck.

I dont know SellmeyourDVD, i have the same set and i notice lag everyday. like i state below, its mostly an issue only when playing online. On MW2 people kill me when i clearly run behind a wall and take cover. on their kill cam it shows i never made it behind the wall. really annoying.

Gaming lag is usually associated online gameplay, so no, you would not notice it playing by yourself on RB.

I'm going to assume though that online lag has more to do with your connection rather than your tv.

also true. i dont wanna put the fault entirely on the set, however when playing offline, as SellmeyourDVD said, i never experience the lag, only when online. i have a DSL 3Mb/1.5Mb connection. playing on my friends cable 10Mb/5Mb connection, input lag is still present..........

Gaming lag is usually associated online gameplay, so no, you would not notice it playing by yourself on RB.
LCD lag for gaming is usually associated with INPUT LAG. That means if I press a button, the response shown on the TV will not as responsive.

So when you clearly ran behind a wall in MW2, that is clearly your connection, the other person's connection and the server all at the same time. Lag online and LCD lag are TWO total and complete opposite things. Now if you put them together obvious you will be pissed as hell.

A good way to describe input lag is things such as Rock Band when things must be timed. I can play rock band with just KNOWING the song and hit 100% put what I'm playing on the set is not corresponding to the screen.

long as you get a current hdtv that has like 5 ms response time you shouldn't notice any lag playing Rock band or FPS.

it's those sack of crap early hdtv that have Bad lag like 20ms just to dial in the control's of the games you play.

I have 2 PS3 and do gaming on both. One is hooked up to a Sony XBR7 and other to Samsung pn650 plasma. So hearing about lag I played the same games (Arkham,COD MW, and gt) for about one hour on both tvs and didnt notice a difference. My Sony is 8ms response time and the plasma is stated at .001 ms response time. Also 2 different source told me take response time with a grain of salt among different manufactures.

Default Input lag clarification

I am reading this thread with great interest as I also game a lot on my TV and would like to upgrade to one with less input lag in the near future... To that end I want to clarify what is meant by input lag so we can improve the quality of this thread.

Input Lag - the time difference between an input being sent to the TV and the TV sending that to the screen. This usually arises because modern TV's process the input signal (usually to scale it to the TV's native resolution). This differs from:

Pixel Response Lag - The time it takes for a pixel on the screen itself to change. This is what LCD manufacturers are referring to when they list a response time of 4ms or whatever.

Internet Lag - same is internet ping

To summarize here is the signal path and where lag can arise... Remember we are most interested in input lag as this is by far the most important when gaming (becaues a TV can't do anything about internet lag and pixel response time is negligible already)

Internet (<100ms typical) - Console(?) - TV Input (30ms typical) - TV display (4ms typical)

So.... Does anyone out there know of a list of input lag specification for current TV's? I've never been able to find one and I think it's time we, as HD gamers, demand this specification from manufacturers.
