Default PS3 open to Internet in Bridge mode

Hi all,

I have a few static IP addresses from my ISP. I could now give one of them to my PS3 and bridge it straight out to the internet, and it would probably give me the fastest connection that I'm going to get with it.

However, this would mean that there is no firewall or NAT to protect it. Does anyone have any opinions or knowledge of whether other people do this and if it is a good idea? or is it a major security risk?

Thanks in advance,

Zotar

I haven't heard one story of anyone getting their PS3 hacked by an online hacker if the PS3 was not behind a firewall. In fact, a lot of folks put their PS3's outside of their router's firewall into the DMZ to facilitate things as PSP remote access. Granted, technology always changes and maybe down the line the PS3 may need to be secured for whatever reason but I don't see a current reason to worry.

Thanks Psx0005. That's what I was thinking. It can't be uncommong for people to put their PS3's on the internet outside their firewall. And hopefully Sony will release firmware patches if people do start to compromise the PS3 online.

Other than the fact that people who want to know will be able to tell you're using a PS3, I don't think there's really a problem at this time.
